Applying to college of Literature, Science, and the Arts, but also wondering if I should even bother applying to Ross?

I will most likely be applying regular Decision.

Questions:
So does one transfer into Ross sophmore year? Is it based of of academic performance of freshmen year? Is it extremely difficult to transfer into?

I am considering UMICH to be a reach. Do I even have a considerable chance? Thanks everyone.

slight reach.

Are you a senior or a junior?

Edit: Nevermind “Lettered four years” gives it away. Slight-mid reach. Apply early since it’s non binding but say that you’re taking the sat again and really try to come up at least 100 points.

There is nothing impressive about your stats. You should calculate your umich gpa so we can better chance you. (don’t ask how… search for it… it’s been asked a million times)

Slight reach because of OOS and applying regular decision, and your kinda low ACT.

I thought the ACT was kinda low too, but I know someone here who got a 28 and had similar GPA and extracurriculars from OOS. I think it just depends sometimes.

Yea, I agree my ACT/SAT scores are holding me back. Honestly, I believe I have undiagnosed ADD and cannot for the life of me have the attention span for that period of time. I have asked my parents to let me get tested for it, but I think they are embarassed if I was to have it lol. Well, I am going to try my hardest to raise my scores. Thanks a lots. Also, I will calculate my U of Mich GPA.

^ Good luck. I honestly thing your biggest problem is that you’re applying regular decision. U of M accepts 75% of its students from early response (according to an admissions person I spoke to) and I know OOS students with very good stats for U of M (3.9+ GPA, 33+ ACT) who were wait listed because they applied really late.

All I’m saying is that if you apply regular decision, more students are fighting for less spots, and it gets a whole lot more competitive. Apply before November 2nd if you can.

What I am worried about is that my 29 on my ACT is going to really hurt me. Am I allowed to send my ACT and SAT scores to them from the october test and will they be considered?

Nevermind, I see they will accept the ACT and SAT from october. I really need to do work on those if I have a chance.

What you can do is apply now and then check the box on the application that says “I am taking October SAT/ACT”
If they think your scores are fine for admission as it is then they’ll accept you, if not they’ll wait for new scores.

^ Yep, that’s right.

Okay, thanks you all have been extremely helpful. One last question, for the essays it it okay to go over the word limit? I am going to be like 50 words over. I know I could probably cut some things out, but I don’t want to just keep making it more and more concise it I am allowed to have more than 500 words.

Yes, you can have more than 500 words. They read the whole essay regardless of length, they just prefer ~500 to save time. If you start to approach 600 then I’d tone it down a bit, but 500 shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Okay, thanks. Also, is it okay if the essays have a connecting theme? There is a club in my school that means a lot to me and I was going to write about it in the diversity and challenges essay. They have different spins, but same idea. Do you think that is okay?

Also, what is the general SAT score for a student accepted?

Oh wow, I don’t think your 29 is bad at all. I was reviewing UMich average test score, and 29 is within that range. I would be less concern of test score ( plus if I had a 29 myself I would be stunt). I think you actually have a good chance of admission, especially considering ( as you say) that you attend PA’s top public high school. Another big downfall of yours would be applying RD.

Id say you have a good shot at getting in

OOS + RD = significantly lower chances IMO. 29 ACT is okay, but it would be great if you could break 30.

Your essays should be fine, they’re not that important at all anyways, mainly just for borderline students, and scholarships/honors college.

Yea, I am definetly applying EA after talking with my counselor. I am getting my essays finished by friday, which means my application/transcript/letters of recommendation should all be sent by the 20th.

Yea, I am checking that I am taking an october ACT and SAT, so my goal is to get above a 2050 on the SAT and a 32 on the ACT. I think it is possible.

Also, I took one ACT last year and one SAT, but I did not choose to send them anywhere. If I send the scores through collegeboard after the test took place(like I didn’t tell them to send them on the test date) are they still considered official? This may be a stupid question, but I was just wondering. Thanks.

Collegeboard.com is SAT testing site
Actstudent.org is ACT testing site

Of course it’s still official. Not everyone knows all of the colleges they’re applying to when they first take the SAT/ACT, and some people are applying to more than 4 colleges (ACT only lets you send scores to 4 colleges initially I think. You have to pay for additional reports).
