Applied for biomedical engineering as first and chemical engineering as second. I thought my essays were pretty decent. I talked about bioengineering in my first one and jiu jitsu in my second. As for my grades, I know I didn’t do well but in first semester, I’ve gotten a 4.0 UW. Do the UCs take a look at these? When I ask this, I don’t mean if they factor the grades into UC GPA, which I know they don’t do, but do they at least glance at them to see how you’re doing in senior year?
THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Senior grades are only considered if you receive a supplemental (augmented review) and for maintaining your provisional admission. You look like a competitive applicant and I believe you have a good chance at an acceptance.

Good Luck.

@Gumbymom Thanks! I’m just afraid that because my UC GPA is sub-4.0 and I’m applying engineering, I won’t have a good chance.

I’d say your scores and ECs would definitely put you right on par with some of the mid to upper-tier UCs, but your grades might knock you down to that mid range. As the previous poster said, if it’s your senior grades bringing that down, they aren’t usually considered. Good luck!

EDIT: I now see this is in the Irvine-specific thread. I’d say it’s a match!

Chance me back?

UCI does love those 4.0+ GPA’s but a 3.99 GPA is hardly sub par.

@rougesneakers Thanks!

@Gumbymom Haha well pointed out, thanks!

Any other takers?

I think your stats are good for Irvine.

I also like that you did your essay on the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu as I have a friend whose family is really into it and I didn’t know anything about it until they told me about it. It is unique so I think it will be an interesting read.

Good Luck!
