Hispanic fwiw

Thanks!

It’s really too early to assess. That being said, if a year from now whe had a 3.5 GPA and her SATs were the same as her PSATs, I’d say that thos numbers were not strong for NU. On the other hand, she has the URM and ranked ice skater hooks, and I suspect that her test scores will improve. But I cannot overemphasize that it’s just too early. Worrying about this stuff in 10th grade puts too much pressure on kids.

Thank you! I agree. It just happens that we will be in the vicinity of NU and a few other places this spring, and rather than do separate (and expensive) trips next year I had thought of setting up a couple of visits. But I didn’t want to waste time if she was so far off the “possible” list that it would just set her up for disappointment.

It’s possible, but highly unlikely without improvement.

Have her take a full-length practice test before she takes the SAT. I got similar scores on my PSAT my sophomore year, and then got a 2080 and a 2240 when I took the test for real. The SAT isn’t hard, but it is long, and it’s better to understand what you’re getting into.

Like everyone here said, she might want to boost up her GPA next year (Which will be hard with Calc BC as a Junior). Her PSAT score is good and her EC is great. She has a strong shot but it definitely is too early to decide. Also, I’d just like to mention that Northwestern isn’t as big as the other top ranked schools with the whole “diversity” thing. So don’t expect the whole Hispanic thing to help you a whole lot.

Thanks, this is very helpful!
