Is there a shot? Will the ACT score hurt her? Someone told me today they look for "geographic diversity." That can't mean they're looking for Northeasterners, can it?

Thanks!

Northeasterners are better off than Midwesterners, but that's about all it'll get you.

Okay, but do you think she has a chance with those stats?

Your D has FABULOUS stats-a pat on your back, too Mom! It represents a lot of hard work.
This years applicants had a rough go---especially the female applicants. There was an exceptionally large number applying this year.I think she has a good shot-would be an asset to the university--but may still not get in. There are so many variables, I have not figured out what clinched it for my D. She was 4.0 UW--7 APs/9 honors received 5s on her AP during Jr. year-awaiting Sr.AP report--2260 SAT--Ranked#1 in her class-lots of strong ECs-and she was initially WAITLISTED at Northwestern-well, you get my drift...a crap shoot so to speak. If she feels Northwestern is a match-why not apply? My D--and now THRILLED to be in the class of 2011.

Wow! With your D's stats (ranked #1 in class; 5s on APs junior year, etc.) she was still WAITLISTED?? That amazes me.

Good luck to your D. Glad she's going to be in the class of 2011! But it makes me less confident for my d.....

Not to diminish APOL's daughter's accomplishment, but it's always important to note that class ranking without a frame of reference is completely meaningless. Rank 1 at many, many schools in the nation may be no more impressive than top 10% or less at a school such as stuyvesant, etc.

Arbiter213---good point---Momnewtothis---I mentioned Ds stats to show how I had no idea what it took to get accepted---and to ENCORAGE you to apply, as it takes all kinds of people to make up the class. What I have learned in all this---it really came down to which school my D saw herself attending. She took the position that she would only apply to schools she would attend if accepted, and then waited to see who would offer her a spot. she did not get hung up with a first choice/second choice. She felt that it would be a waste of energy. She did take the position that she had worked hard-and deserves the chance to apply/ask. I hope this helps-
