She is a military child that has been to 9 different schools(Europe and 4 different states), she will emphasize that the challenges of the different schools and the ability to adapt to the challenges put in front of her have made her a stronger and more diverse individual.
The University of Minnesota is her only safety school.

I almost forgot her ED will be JHU

Often students end up picking schools that have some common characteristics. Obviously you have a Minnesota theme going with Carleton and University of Minnesota. But then from that, I don’t see any other LACs, two very intense midsize universities in pretty urban areas and a military academy. What has intrigued your daughter about these particular schools and what is she looking for?

Also, if she’s thinking West Point, is she also thinking ROTC if she doesn’t make West Point? Because that might want her to investigate which schools have a ROTC program that appeals to her.

ROTC does not interest her. She wants the school experience of West Point and military service is the cost of that experience. She is fully prepared for that(she has spent her entire life as a military child). There is also a major benefit to Westpoint over ROTC in controlling your branch selection. If she does really well while there she can immediately get into dental school. If she doesnt do quite that well her plan is to apply once she is a captain. There is no particular theme to her choices. She has talked about JHU and Westpoint since she was 10. I wanted her to broaden her choices and required her to pick a safety school(My wife and I are from Minnesota and we have family up there so the U of M made sense). Carleton has a fantastic post graduate record which attracted her for her overall goal of becoming an Orthodontist. My daughter really has no particular loyalties to a particular style. It is probably due to the fact that we have lived Urban, Rural, and Suburban.

Actually come to think of it financial aid packages are probably the only theme. We get in state at Minnesota and as poor military people JHU is very reasonable.
