Not sure about others. Competitive academics and test scores. EC’s are good. Just nail the essays and your friend has good chances at all the California schools.

Take UT Austin off. Too expensive and very, very difficult to get into architecture.

Your friend should figure out how she will pay for school. Architecture requires either a 5th year or a masters degree. I don’t see art classes. Does she have a portfolio?

She might want to look at the University of Alabama’ program in architectural engineering plus the automatic scholarship that is offered by UA.

@txstella Despite their income bracket, they actually have a lot of savings to pay for college. Also, her father is a stock broker, and his income isn’t factored in there (for some reason). My friend says he makes around 150k a year. Also, yes, she is working on a portfolio, and the UCB credit she earned was in art (or something of the sort). I don’t want this to sound wrong, but the majority of people from our area aren’t too keen to go down too south because the most of us are Asian, and we know that there will be some racial prejudice there.

Bump

If her family income is $200,000, she just needs to make sure there is about $250,000 for her education. I stand by my recommendation for UT Austin. The architecture program is one of the most selective and your friend’s grades and rank are not all that strong. Getting into UT from OOS is very difficult.

Maybe your friend should make her own post as you don’t seem to know the details.

@txstella Thanks!
My friend doesn’t have her own CC account, so I’m doing this for her. But yes, the last thing I put about the financials is all I was missing, and she has already talked with her parents, and they have confirmed they will be able to pay for UT Austin.
Another thing, according to data from my school, the average admit for UT Austin at our school has a 3.71 GPA (top 40%) and a 2100ish SAT.

There are numerous threads on CC about OOS admission to UT. Read them. Architecture is EXTREMELY competetive as there are few spots.

Your friend’s stats for UT are not all that strong. Chances of admission into UT is heavily dependent upon the first choice of major.

Bump. New info: class deciles were reported wrong. My friend is in the top 40% of our class.
