Recommendation Letters: My Academic Dean is going to write one hell of a recommendation. He is one of my best friends at my school. My Geometry and Precalculus teacher will write my Math Recommendation. I have had an A every quarter in his classes.

I am a white male.

Do I even have a chance? My rocky Freshmen and Sophomore years really screwed up my GPA.

Do something no one else has ever done. Write a program in C++ that has a real use. Prove your creativity. Make sure you’re senior year grades are impeccable. MIT really looks for creativity and originality in thinking. If you can prove that then maybe they will be able to overlook your frosh and soph years.

Honestly, I don’t really think you have much of a shot with MIT unless you do something spectacularly stellar/creative/unique.

Your GPA/SAT scores are no where near where the normal applicants are. You have to remember that MIT is full of academic all stars. So even though you might be an incredibly intelligent person, unless you have the statistics on paper, you might not get in.

But, then again, don’t lose hope:) Keep plugging away and who knows what could happen!

Just keep your senior grades as high as possible and anything at or above 2200 is more than fine for MIT. I’d definitely follow bigjay71’s advice.

I’d also recommend taking the Math II SAT II. It has a better curve than Math I, and one can get an 800 by skipping 5 and getting the rest correct.

If you’re skillful at Pre Calc/Trig and Algebra II concepts then I would go for a near 800. That should help you, especially since Math II is more respected since the math on it is more advanced.
