Chance my son, please

My son is in a full IB program in the US and earned all A’s during his junior year IB courses. He is doing equally well first semester senior year, but does not perform well on standardized tests. His ACT super score is 26. He would apply to Faculty of Arts at McGill. Is there any chance of admission with that ACT score despite his likely earning the IB diploma? In other words, will the IB diploma outweigh the ACT score? Thanks!

@TomSrOfBoston can help.

Hmmm. For Arts the ACT score is below the minimum “ACT 28 (English & Reading subscores ≥ 26, others ≥ 24)”. This is the minimum for IB " 35 subject points (predicted) or 34 subject points (final) overall". For IB they do not go by GPA.

I’m not sure if the IB would supercede the normal requirements for American applicants. You may want to call ServicePoint.

McGill is very rigorous, and known for rather merciless grading on their tests. If your son doesn’t do well on tests then you might want to re-think his choice of school. Unlike many US schools, the hardest part about McGill isn’t getting in, but surviving the four years.
