Son is junior in high school.

He has a 4.7weighted GPA – have no idea how that translates on a 4.0 scale, but he is a solid B student in an excellent public (MA) high school. He’s taken the majority of his classes at the Advanced level and will be taking 3 APs next year (Bio, Stats, Latin). He is President of a language club; on two varsity sports (golf, crew); couple of other clubs at school.

SATs: 700M, 620CR, 520W – will be taking again later this Spring.

Also, will not be applying for financial aid. By the way, does this make a difference to colleges?

Anyone out there have an opinion as to his chances? Thanks!

I would say your son is a very good match for BU. I don't think you have to worry with a 4.7 gpa! I have heard that need aware schools, like BU, do take into consideration weather or not you need aid. Kids that come in paying full cash tuition help the college to increase their funding for other students in need. Best of luck to your son!

My son's 4.7 GPA is a WEIGHTED one (on a 6.0 basis) -- like I said, I have no idea how it is translated to a traditional 4.0 basis -- I just know he is a solid B student in mostly all advanced classes.

compelely the opposite.. BU is need-blind. they don't care if they have an applicant with parents willing to sell the yacht and pay in cash. they take the best students and then accomodate them as they need to

I knew I'd seen your post before.

Why don't you just make ONE thread about this in the Chances board instead of posting it on each college's individual board? People who browse the chances board are the ones who like chancing people, so you'll actually get more feedback.

Just list the schools he's interested in.

Oh sorry -- new to this -- didnt know there is a specific Chances thread. Sorry!

No worries, there is an entire Chances board where everyone makes threads. More ppl will see your thread there.

My dear one and only,
I understand how confusing these threads can be. I think you're doing just fine. There are angry people out there!

New England Mom: What a kind and perceptive woman you seem -- I thank you for your positive thoughts and wish you and your lucky children best of luck in their college search. By the way, have you looked at Smith???
