Cornell's stingy with aid when it comes to international students...
Sorry, don't know much about the other schools, i'm applying to mostly LACs

As a matter of fact. I DO need aid. But I heard that many colleges are pretty stingy about international students getting aid. So I don't know what to do.... either apply for FA or not.
Bump plz!

Applying for aid is a decision only you can make, because it depends so much on individual circumstances. It also depends on how much aid you would be requiring - it is one thing to be able to pay $20k and another to be able to pay $2k.
Should you not apply for aid, I would say you are a strong candidate for any of the unis on your list except for Columbia. If you do require aid, be advised that Rice, Vandy, UVA, Michigan and Wisconsin are not exactly known for their generosity towards international students (people, correct me if I'm wrong!).

Thank you very much, bogororo! I don't assume that I can get a good FA as a it'l freshman. So I was thinking about applying for FA after I got in since lots of people say it's easier to get FA when I get older; so. Thanks!
Bump plz!

ellenjh, you're very welcome!
Make sure to check Financial Aid policies REGARDING INTERNATIONALS! I know that many institutions specify that you cannot apply for aid as an international if you did not do it in your first year there.

Thanks, guys~ There are so many things to check ;( it's so confusing.
Well, Would you plz give me any advice how schools are gonna be? like reach, match, or safety? I really need your advice!

Cornell - good reach
Columbia - reach
Emory (have a good recommendation) - match
U of Toronto - dunno
UCSD - saftey
U Penn - good reach/match
Rice - hmm... good match
Vandy - good match
UVA - good match
Michigan - great match
UIUC - not sure.. dont know much about this school
Wisconsin - great match/ saftey

Hey your ECs show that you have real passion for them as you've done 3-4 years for most!
Good Luck!!

Northwestern is need-aware. They DO reject formidable applicants if they require too much aid. Sad, but true. Unsure how much aid you require, though.

Wash Uni St. Louis...I think it's mostly based on merit-aid, right? confused

I know Emory, Vandy are merit-aid, probably Rice.
But I am not sure about others. gee..
So it's easier to get in if I don't apply for FA. sigh
well, Thanks guys~
