Okay, since you asked, I will give a completely honest chance for this, and as lengthy as possible. Early Decision is a wise choice for WashU, and I have heard they like to see demonstrated interest. If you have visited campus and have had an on-campus interview with them, that would be a plus as well. If not, I highly recommend you interview with them. A very competitive school within California helps give me context to how to chance you, but WashU may not know how competitive your school is in relation to the country (they may not care to look it up). Your class rank, given the competition at your school, is on par. Your SAT score is competitive for WashU, but in my opinion, and in a few others’, it often looks appealing to have all sections at 700+, so if you were planning on taking it again, I would focus solely on the CR section. If not, I still think you are fine. And yes, a Korean male from California is an anti-hook (even bigger if you are on the wealthier side), but really, don’t focus too much on what you can’t change. Your SAT II scores are solid. If you were planning on taking any more, perhaps look into taking a humanities one to give variety and demonstrate well-roundedness. If not, no big deal at all. Your GPA is solid. The upward trend helps as well. Your AP scores won’t really help/hurt you, but your course load appears rigorous, which is important. Your subjects and your school suggest that you perhaps are looking to go into science/engineering (that could make the anti-hook a bit bigger). Now, to this point I would say you are a competitive applicant to WashU ED academically (perhaps a bit above average even with an anti-hook on you), so that is fine, but your academics won’t seal the deal. We arrive to the make or break point with the ec’s. I will go through each one individually. Football team: were you on at least JV freshman and sophomore year? If not, I believe, (and WashU may believe) it was sort of non-committal/resume padding. If you did football all four years and moved up in the process, that works heavily in your favor, as it demonstrates commitment and improvement. Korean Club: Look, I know that I may be hard on the anti-hook here, but in my opinion this is kind of not adding anything/saying anything about you. What have you done in this other than be Korean? Medical Awareness Club: This could be good. How long have you been doing this? Student Council: This is always helpful in my opinion. Three years is long enough to show commitment. Volunteering: In my honest opinion, none of this volunteering, while certainly you should include, is unique, so there is that. I don’t know how relevant your internship is to your intended major/career, but it is worth including. The App stuff I’m not too sure about either. Your tutoring piano may or may not help. Overall, in the ec’s I see a weakness. You have a lot of things, but I see a lack of passion. Very few of the ec’s have relevance to what I believe you intend to do in college, and I think there really is a lack of solid leadership within an important ec. You give me the impression of resume padding. On the commonapp, try to focus on your most important ec’s and what you accomplished in each of them. Sell yourself. I think this will be an important factor in your chances as to how you pull this off. Your awards are okay, but none of them will matter in my opinion. Why even mention the art contests by the way? It adds nothing and reinforces my belief that you are resume padding a bit. Mediocre awards say it all. Now, I would highly recommend making sure your essays are great and really show who you are as a student, learner, and human being. Overall, it is a little tough to tell, but I think for WashU ED you are a high match. I wish you good luck.
And by the way, WashU is better than nearly all of the UC’s, perhaps with the contentious debate between UCLA and UCBerkeley.
