I requested a single and I really want one. I have no problem making friends and I just really like having my own space sometimes, so I'm not looking to just hole up in my room 24/7. Do people who request singles usually get one?

Your chances are excellent. You will have to pay extra but it is worth every penny.

^
Wait, why are singles worth every penny? How large are they?

My older daugther had a small single at Dickinson. She loved it because she could keep her door open if she wanted to socialize, but she could just close her door if she wanted some privacy - no roommate’s BF sleeping over, no RM getting up too early or going to bed late, and when it was too cold to go out, she stayed in her room to study.

My younger D also requested for a single. Cornell has a lot of singles, they probably have more singles than people who want them.

Yes, they are worth every penny for those who want them for the reasons stated above. The size of the singles can vary by dorm, but even the smallest seem big enough.
