Chance of getting into OSU - only school she wants to apply

IMO, I feel like BaghDAD was just making a point. Maybe it was a bit of a generalization, but to be honest, a lot of people DO in fact see Ohio State’s athletics and say ‘that’s where I want to go!’ However, it isn’t a knock on the university. I, in fact, am choosing to attend Ohio State this fall, and I don’t think I am a bad student by any means. I have a 33 ACT 1490 (V+M) SAT, and was #1 in my high school class. I like the way OSU handles research opportunities, and they are consistently among the ranks of the top public schools in the U.S. I don’t think that a school should be scrutinized based on how some student was admitted with a 2.2 and a 20 ACT.

To address the OP, don’t use the argument that she won’t get in because she probably will. Instead try to demonstrate to her that she needs to understand the concept of fit. Like an earlier post said, without other options, if her mind changes somewhere along the line, she may be stuck going to OSU, being unhappy, and not making the most of her education. Not to mention, some people don’t really understand what they’re getting into when they apply/enroll in these giant institutions like OSU; if she gave some smaller schools a look, she might find that she would be more comfortable in that sort of environment.

You can make a point without calling people names. In fact, I would be more inclined to listen to someone else’s opinion (even if it differed from mine), if it were offered in a more respectful manner.

The problem with BaghDAD’s point is that he seems to ■■■■■ these boards looking to make it wherever he can with no balanced positive comments about Ohio State. That, to me, is someone with an ax to grind rather than a productive and helpful member of this board.

When such a significant percentage of one’s posts are spent denigrating a single school, any valid point tends to get washed away in the river of b.s.

Baghdad: Such condescension and arrogance I sense from you. Along with OSU my daughter is also considering Wittenberg, St. Lawrence, College of Wooster, American and Ohio University along with a few others. She certainly doesn’t regard OSU as the “pinnacle of the college experience.” Her interests in OSU are primarily based on their linguistics program.

I admit to shopping at Walmart, not so much Dollar General but I have in the past. My daughters hick friend, the daughter of 2 Dr.'s is taking her 32 act score and attending OSU.
