SATs:
Math: 720
Critical Reading: 720
Writing: 800 (Essay: 12)

GPA: 4.0

Rank: 2/437 (approx, I know there are over 400 people in my class, but I'm not sure of the exact number)

Extracurriculars: Swimming 9-10, Debate 11-12 (We travel on the NFL, TFA, and TOC circuit), NHS 11-12 (1st VP - 12th), French Club 9-11, Rotary 12 (hopefully), UIL Academics/Speech & Debate, all that good stuff. I probably should join more clubs. I worked for 2 years at the Country Club, and am expecting to get a job soon at Greek Brothers after one of the hostesses leave.

English and History are my best subjects (I made 5s on both the AP tests anyways). I'll be taking AP Govt/Eco, English, Cal AB & BC, and mayybe AP Human Geo this year, if it makes.

I live in Texas, and I go to a 4A school.

I'm also thinking about hopefully double-majoring in English, or applying to LA Honors if not Plan II. But I realllly want to get into Plan II. What are my chances? I know the essays are extremely important in the application process; it's freaking me out though.

Your stats are in line for what Plan II outlines. The essays are important, and my best piece of advice (my daughter in entering Plan II-Fall 2011) is apply as early as you can with a strong application. Make sure your resume is together and your essays are extremely strong. And not just your Plan II essay. All your essays. Tell your story, color the picture for the reader. Because Plan II has rolling admissions you up your odds by getting a great application in early. Don’t send a just ok application early if more time would make it better, but don’t drag your feet either. I can’t remember exactly when my daughter finished her app, I think mid October and she was notified of acceptance a week before Thanksgiving. Don’t forget you have to do your ApplyTexas first, before your honors supplement is ready to download. There will be another essay there.

With all that said, the Plan II class of 15 has a private FB page and one thing I can tell you all these kids are very different but all have an undercurrent of smarts about them. (And many of them are really funny) Most seem really well traveled and they all read. And read lots and lots. A wonderful group of worldy kids.

I’ve already finished up the prelim ApplyTexas application and all I have to do is work on the two essays (A and B). I should have it all done by hopefully the beginning of September, and get the honors part in by mid-September.

That is so great. I’ve had my eyes set on Plan II since 8th grade, honestly, when I first heard of the program. I’m realllly hoping I get it.
