I am an Indian student with above average secondary school scores. My SAT I score is 2130; Maths 740, CR 710, Writing 710; SAT II: Maths IIC 750; Lit. 770. My ECs are severely lacking.
What are the chances of me getting selected by Williams?

Well your SAT scores look on par. EC are an important part of Williams admission, so you are in trouble. Maybe this page will help:[College Search - Williams College - Admission](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

Do you need financial aid?

Isn’t Williams now need blind for international applicants too?

Sent from my LG-P509 using CC App

Yes, I need a substantial amount of financial aid, and as far as I can tell from the official website, Williams is not need-blind for international students.

Is the lack of ECs a very big problem?

sirfkartik, you are right. Williams is not need-blind.

Yes, lack of ECs is a very big problem. Do you have at least something?

The only thing that I have is that my English is mostly self-taught, but that’s hard to explain to someone who is not intimate with the type of English taught in backward Indian towns.

Is it really that hopeless?

Unfortunately, yes. You’re competing against other internationals who have better scores than you and outstanding ECs.

You probably already know that other Indians would be applying so you should know what kind of competition you’re up against.

Your chances are slim.

And nothing can be done to improve them in the time left, or by taking a year’s gap?

Make sure that you apply to other broadly similar liberal arts colleges to increase your chances, as Williams is very popular.

Other than Williams, I am also applying to Vassar, Kenyon and a few others.

^ Good idea. Also, don’t forget that Amherst and (I think, but not positive) Middlebury are needs blind for international applicants, so you should definitely include them on your list. Jackuk

Amherst is already in my list, but I think my lack of ECs will be a pretty big problem there too. And Middlebury is not need-blind for international students. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Apparently, my chances of selection by Vassar are nil too, until and unless I can reduce the amount of aid I need drastically.

Is there ANY chance of Vassar accepting an international who needs a lot of FA, especislly if he is a minority from an underrepresented country (El Salvador) with ivy caliber stats?
