I applied for Chemical Engineering, but I just want to gauge if I'd be able to change that to mechanical engineering if admitted. Would that be possible if done immediately?

Thanks.

Assuming you’re coming in as a freshman, you’ll need to do one semester first and meet a couple requirements (ie, good technical GPA). But sure, definitely do-able.

Chemical Engineering is in the College of Chemistry. Transferring into the College of Engineering from any other college is rather difficult.

It’s VERY difficult to switch into any college of Engineering major, if you are not already in the COE. This is because the only space for transfering in is made by COE students who drop out of berkeley or switch to a different college.

Right now, Chemical Engineering is in the College of Chemistry.

It’s certainly doable. Do it as early as you can, which means second semester freshmen year.
