To start off I should say I wasn't the best student in high school (compared to my peers, though keep in mind I go to one of the top schools in california), and my weighted GPA is only 3.97 and my un-weighted GPA is 3.4 (this is all 10-12 by the way). I got mostly A's and B's and the occasional C in my classes which include 9 AP's after junior year, and 12 by the time I graduate (and a calc 3 class offered from a local college). I did win the AP scholar with distinction and AP national scholar awards with all 5's, and got a 2130 on my SAT (first and only time, with the breakdown as follows: reading 740, math 710, and writing 680 with a 9 on the essay) although I have yet to take the SAT II's (bad planning since I am a senior). In terms of extra-curricular's I have only one: FIRST FRC robotics, into which I have poured all four years of my high school life and (by my estimation) over 900 hours. I haven't performed any community service though, unless the summer I spent volunteering at the library when in middle school counts.
If you wouldn't mind giving your honest opinion on my probability of entering this distinguished school I would be very appreciative.

Also, I forgot to mention it, but I would like to earn either a master's or doctorate in aerospace engineering. Thank's again.

Hey, felt inclined to respond to this one since your situation sounds similar to me 3 years ago. I went to one of the top high schools in New Jersey, had a relatively poor GPA (worse than yours). I had similar AP experience as you and I had a 2210 on the SAT.

I would suggest taking SATIIC Math and a science SATII. I would suggest getting some volunteer time under your list of experiences, I’d say I’m a bit surprised that community service isn’t a graduation requirement at your school.

Just make sure you have a great essay which highlights all the time you’ve spent in your FIRST program (it was Battlebots for me), and I think you should have a decent chance at acceptance. I would suggest maybe taking your SAT one more time since you have 90 points to gain on math (which is the easiest section in my opinion for an engineer) which should take you into the 2200’s.

Thanks for your reply! I should clarify that I am signed up for the math level 2 and physics SAT II’s for November 3rd, but I don’t think I can retake the because the next available test date would be December 1st which is beyond the regular decision deadlines of the other schools I am applying to. If it is possible to send my old scores to the other schools, and then my new one to GT (which is my top choice by the way) I would retake it. Also, is community service really necessary? My main concern is that it would appear rushed since the application deadline is only 4 months away.
