Chance of my UCSB Tag application being approved?

I sent the letter below to the UCSB Office of Admissions, but I still have not received a response. I was hoping somebody here could help me out.

Dear UCSB Admissions Office,

I am currently going into my 3rd year at Pasadena City College and plan to TAG to UCSB as an Economics and Accounting Major this fall.

So far, I have completed 91.3 units with an overall GPA of 3.07. My question for the UCSB Admissions Office is whether or not my exceeding of the 90 unit cap applies to me if they are all from a community college.

In addition, according to the UCSB TAG Criteria, I must...

"Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC - transferable coursework by the end of fall 2014 AND maintain a minimum overall 3.20 GPA through the end of spring 2015"

<a href="http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/docs/default-source/PDFs/ucsb-fall-2015-tag-criteria.pdf?sfvrsn=4">http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/docs/default-source/PDFs/ucsb-fall-2015-tag-criteria.pdf?sfvrsn=4</a></p>

Therefore, I would be eligible to TAG to UCSB if I raised my GPA .13 points by the end of the fall semester and maintained it through the spring, correct? If this is the case, my primary concern is how 'Ws' and retaking classes I have failed will affect the chances of my TAG being approved. Because I am taking two classes that I received a D in in previous semesters, raising my GPA above the 3.2 requirement will not a problem for me.

As of 08/11/2014, I have two Ws and two Ds on my transcript. I am retaking single-variable calculus, which I received a D and a W from in the summer of 2013 and fall 2013, respectively and Microbiology, which I received a D in in the spring of 2014.

I have spent hours working and studying calculus this summer to make sure that I am prepared for the class this upcoming fall, but I'm not sure how to show those in charge of approving TAG applications that I will be able to satisfy the requirements by the end of fall 2014. I'm afraid that if I do not get approved for TAG at UCSB, my chances of getting into the university I want for the major that I want are slim. Assuming that I haven't already been disqualified, what advice do you have have for somebody in my scenario looking to TAG? Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Sticky Rice

Retaking classes that you got D’s in will have the most impact on your grades. Go online and google GPA Calculator, and you can input your grades and see what replacing grades will do for your gpa. Play around and see what happens if you get an A or B, or whatever. Retaking W’s will have no impact. W’s don’t affect your gpa, and for the most part the UCs don’t care about them.

@‌ 2016candles

Retaking the two classes I received a D in will put me at 3.3-3.4 at the end of the fall assuming I get at least a B in them.

What I’m worried about is not getting my TAG approved. Do you know if UCSB will count the two Ds and Ws against me when looking at my TAG application? It is my understanding that SB can choose not to approve my request of a TAG

Typically, as long as your classes were officially academically renewed by your CC, then the UCs tend to honor that as well. But make sure you do whatever is needed at your CC. Don’t assume they’ll just take care of it.

Unit cap is only for those who have gone to a four year university and a community college. You can take as many units as you want, but the UC’s will only take 70 UC transfers units and the rest will go towards subject credit.

If you retake the classes and they are from the same CCC you do not need academic renewal. The Ds will not be calculated. Everything you said is fine and you should be able to TAG.

Wow thanks guys, you’ve been really helpful. I’ll keep you guys updated after I’ve submitted my TAG if anybody cares lol.

We all care @stickyrice‌ . =D> :-c

Hi guys, I’m going through the same problem as stickyrice. I’m also attending Pasadena City College right now and I fear that I might not have meet all the requirements for Fall 2015.

Right now I stand at a total of 72 credit hours with a 3.167 GPA. In order for me to meet the requirements for this last semester I would need to either get an A for Calculus 5A, with at least a B in my Econ 1B and my Physical Antro 1 class or get a B form my Calculus 5A class and get an a A for my Econ 1B and my Physical Antro 1 class. If I don’t meet the requirements can I buff up my overall GPA taking some easy classes and try again for Fall 2016?

Currently I don’t have any Ds, but I do have 3 Cs that I am hoping to retake for an A if that is a possible option. I guess the main problem for me is too many Bs and too few As on my transcript.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y’all.
