Chance + OOS FA question

Hi,
I am considering applying to umich in the winter or spring. My current stats are
3.61 GPA (I got a C in a stupid gen ed class but otherwise I'd have a 3.8! had a 4.0 freshman year)
3.5 years of undergraduate essay
first generation college student
3 sick letters of recommendation, one from lab PI
2 Poster Presentations
Hospital Volunteer
Volunteered at local religious organization for many years and helped with youth group amongst other things
I have been working part time on/off for the past 4 years
Won awards for short films in high school (common app asks for ECs from 11th grade onwards)

I also have a special needs sibling and I help out a lot and I put it down under ECs b/c the common app asks for family obligations . Good idea or bad?
Also put down that I do informal religious studies. i don't know if i should have put that down.

HS Stats:
3.0 UW GPA
3.64 Weighted GPA
1890 SAT

Also, how is FA for an OOS applicant? I have heard some reports that umich does full need but I used the EFC calculator and got somewhere around $10000 EFC + $10000 from work study... which is nuts b/c my family income is only 23k
Appreciate it!

Michigan meets full need only for resident students. Out of state students will still have to take out private loans.

As for your chances, it’s hard to say as Michigan gives out nearly no information regarding their transfer admissions standards. All that is known is that the average accepted college GPA is a 3.65 and the acceptance rate was 33% in 2012. Of course that doesn’t mean much because they also take into account what classes you took, your major, high school stats, recommendations, extracurriculars and residency status among many other factors.

Honestly, with your unweighted and SAT, your chances are not strong. But apply and knock your essay out of the park and you never know.

wayne, OP is a transfer applicant so high school stats are taken into little, if any, consideration.

Ah, sorry; I need to read closer.
