Well, I’m not n expert on the topic, but it sounds like you may have a chance. How do you think you’ll do on the essays? What about interviewing? Have you done any community service? Do you have a hook?
Other than that, you sound pretty well-rounded, but don’t take my word for it!
Good luck, and will you chance me as well? :)

From our experience, there is still a bit of a bias against homeschoolers at some schools. (I do not have any direct experience with Lawrenceville, as our son did not apply there).

I strongly suggest you plan to tour the schools you’re interested in applying to, and schedule on-campus interviews. Your interview will be critical - the admissions officers want to make sure that you are a “normal,” articulate, outgoing, socially adept kid. (Versus some type of stereotypical kid who is home schooled because they don’t have any social skills and spend their days in a dark room, programming. This is meant to be funny - but trust me, those perceptions are out there!)

I see that you are taking online courses, as well as using a tutor. Would it be possible for you to enroll in a “live” class this fall - perhaps at a local community college? Although your online teacher or your tutor can write teacher recommendations for you, it is helpful for a “classroom” teacher to write a rec, so they can address how you interact with your peers.

Personal recs will be very important, too, and we found that the schools welcomed additional recs from a home schooled applicant. If possible, get a rec from your music teacher as well as a team coach. It is important for these recommenders to be able to talk about your character as well as your academic/music/athletic abilities.

Good luck to you - feel free to send me a PM if you have questions, or have your parents contact me for more info about applying as a homeschooler. (FYI - our son applied to two schools in the 2010-11 cycle, and was waitlisted at Exeter and denied at Choate. This past cycle, he visited and interviewed at 8 schools, applied to 4, and was accepted at all 4: Ridley College, Loomis Chaffee, Deerfield and Thacher. He will be a repeat 9th grader at Thacher this coming fall.

Thanks so much for the tips, mountainhiker,
bubblegum321, yes, of course :-)
