EC:
Played volleyball freshman and sophomore year. Freshman and JV team captain.
Environmental Club. Three years. Vice President.
Art Publication. Two years. Award winning.
*My EC's are so scarce because I've worked 30 hours a week since sophomore year.

I applied to all as an Art History major and wrote an essay with several art references. The AP English teacher said it was unique and brilliant.

I'm an AP Scholar, have two gold medals from the National Latin Exam, and was the alternate for the IU Honors Study Abroad program.

I'm antsy with anticipation, any thoughts?

I think you Def. Will get in! you fit in to everything they say on the website! good luck.

Thank you! If it matters at all, I have a first semester grade report sent in to them with an unweighted 3.8 and those four AP’s…

Ur in. Just need to wait it out for the acceptance folder! On second thought…GW wants students that want to go to GW. Hopefully your why GW essay was strong. I remember reading last year there were a number of very highly qualified students that were not accepted.

Is there any chance for a big FA package or some sort of scholarship?
My EFC is only 5,000-not taking into account that my father’s job was just “eliminated.”

It’s horrible that I don’t remember this, but in my why GW essay I think I talked about their study abroad program, the school’s willingness to find internships and about some of the colleges associates that I would like to intern for, and also about how that could progress my interest in art…

Your “why” essay should be fine especially by adding the college associates and how the school can help you pursue your interest in art. What was stated in the question was to NOT duplicate information from the web site. I don’t know much about FA or scholarships except that I found info that reports GW reduced the number of merit scholarships this year. There was reference to NMF status. I had a 3.8UW, and 30ACT, not in top 10%, 5AP’s all 4’s/5’s and didn’t received any merit…still waiting on FA but my EFC is pretty high so not holding my breath. I have heard though that FA is very generous so you may do very well in that catagory.

I tried my best to sound informed and thoughtful, without just copying and pasting information from the website. I briefly mentioned the information they had about different programs, and then expressed how I would want to use that program to further my own education. IE: Travel to their sites in Italy and France, intern at the National Gallery which is a noted associate and then somehow tied that all together with a big, gaudy bow.

I can see how it could sound redundant though, but oh well. Nothing I can do now.

I’m really hoping for FA, otherwise I’m destined to a college that I’m not at all passionate about.

Hey flatteredpeacock,

If you get in, I’m pretty sure you’ll receive a hefty amount of financial aid. However, since you mentioned your dad was laid off recently (as in, it wouldn’t be reflected on your FAFSA), you should definitely fill out a “special circumstance” form offered by the financial aid office. I think they make you wait a certain number of months after someone’s parent is unemployed, but since the economic downturn they’ve been actually really good at working with families to get them the help they need. So yeah, if you feel like your aid package won’t be enough to make GW affordable for you, don’t hesitate to call financial aid and see if you can work something out. Good luck!

Thank you thank you,

I think my mom made a note of it on the FAFSA or the CSS, I forget which one, but hopefully it’ll be enough.
