Also, i have a quick question. i dont have any UIL competition/academic decathlon involvement/awards because honestly, id rather hang out with friends...will that hurt me? I've noticed a lot of kids on here are involved in these kinds of activities.

wow, you have great stats and i think that not having decathalon involvement won’t hurt you. however, Stanford is so difficult to get into. I hope you don’t mind me asking but, are you an URM? If you are, it’ll increase your chances by a ton.

you should get in… although a 5.5? Seems like your school must inflate a lot to even have a scale that goes up that high.

haha no, unfortunately im of asian descent

our gpa max is actually out of a 6.25, though getting that score is impossible because it would require you to take only ap classes for all for years and have a 100 average

6.25? uh…wow. ours is only 4.5. what’s your UW GPA?

WHAT??? wow, that’s a really weird scale. so it would be around a 3.9-4.0 out of a 4?

my UW gpa is a 4.0.

Then yeah, you’re pretty much in.

ok, that makes more sense. I would say you have a really good chance of getting into Stanford actually. Are you applying ED?

And about the GPA scale at my school…Yes, I know it’s weird, but my school only offers about 8 AP classes total. If you take all of them and get straight A’s you get a 4.5.

im not really sure about ED. do you have to commit to the school if you get accepted?

yes, you do. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with Stanford.

actually, i just looked it up and there is no ED for Stanford. there’s only EA (early action). For EA, you apply earlier than regular but you don’t have to commit if you get accepted.

do you have a better chance of acceptance EA? if you do, i guess i’ll do it. not really considering any other schools besides UT

I think that you do. Plus, it will show them that you are really interested in Stanford and not just applying there because it’s an Ivy League like some people do.

Is it just me, or does it seem kind of laundry-list-y and stereotypical Asian-y (for the lack of a better term)? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course, but I was always under the impression that you needed something unique to set you apart from other applicants?

I’ve known students who were more involved, had higher SAT scores (2350+), stronger course rigor (9+ APs by the end of junior year), and had perfect UW GPAs, and were straight out rejected SCEA. Not even deferred.

Great stats, phoshizzle. Taking 7 AP courses, that’s impressive. The one thing you need to work on is the spelling of Stanford.

There are so many things wrong with this thread.

 1. Stanford has no d in the spelling
 2. Stanford is not ivy league
 3. dont let anyone tell you that you will or should get in. it is not our decision.
 4. no ED. just REA
 5. your stats are good, but so are thousands of other applicants. i like the quote that an admissions officer told me once. “the median gpa for admitted students is 4.0. the median gpa for rejected students is also 4.0”. i dont know if its accurate, but try to understand the meaning. your stats look good overall but i cannot say they are amazing. I’m not trying to be mean (trust me). i’m just advising that you be wary of getting comfortable. chances are you will be rejected because it happens to most applicants, who overall also have great stats.

do things that you really love. you should be concerned, but dont center your high school life around getting in. do wat you love and just show it in ur app

Okay, so many problems with the above statement.

 1. Stanford is not an Ivy League school. Sure, it’s just as good as some, but the Ivy League is an ATHLETIC conference in the Northeast.
 2. Stanford has said repeatedly on multiple places in their pamphlets, viewbook, and website that applying early gives no benefit.
 3. Applying early means that you get your decision early, which for me was worth it. I loved Stanford, but was rejected. It does NOT give you the upperhand. You’re in a more competitive pool of applicants for more spots which does not translate into “easier”. Stanford also doesn’t like deferring people as much as Yale or MIT, meaning that you will most likely get rejected or accepted, and it’s a one shot deal. I applied early and was rejected and got into every single other school I applied to (other than a Duke waitlist). I’m not saying that this is the norm, but don’t think that it’s easier to get into Stanford early, or even harder. I don’t think for a second that I would have gotten into Stanford RD either, or that applying early affected my chances at all. Waiting has its benefits too because a lot of awards aren’t announced till late December and if you apply early, you don’t have the oppoturnity to put that on your application. Do it because you WANT to, not because you’re playing a game. Early decision is different from single choice early action. You should look into this.
 4. Standford? Typo, probably, but in case it’s not: STANFORD. Not StanDford.

NJDS - we just said the same thing. Weird.
And in the same format.

@anonymous-that is hilarious.
