You’re a competitive candidate.
Your test scores are solid, with SATs at 1470/1600 and Subject Tests of 770 and 780 (they won’t count the Spanish 720; they take your two best scores). THe AP scores are obviously also excellent.
The transcript leaves some small question marks. A 92 GPA is strong and shows real achievement, but won’t knock them out, because they’ll see more GPAs in that area than they’ll know what to do with. Also, in your senior year course load, you are including orchestras. Are those considered graded courses at your school and, if so, are you including that in your 92 GPA? Because your GPA from a college adcom perspective will likely be only about academic courses, not music and art courses. I like the senior year courses. Have you taken physics and chem?
ECs are fine. Convey the depth of your commitment to your music in your app.
Good luck.

Yeah, the 92 isn’t fantastic, I know. Nope, I’m not including the arts classes in my gpa (which is weighted, btw). I took conceptual physics sophomore year and chemistry junior year, don’t worry!

What’s your UNweighted GPA?
(Also, conceptual physics is generally looked at as being the “soft” approach to a hard course; I just don’t know how the adcoms at the better schools will feel about it. Did you have a choice between “conceptual” and “general” physics?)

I didn’t even take physics and I got in. Or calculus, for that matter. I hate math and science but I excelled in other areas, which you have clearly done. Don’t worry.

The unweighted GPA is something like a 91 or in that area. It’s not significantly lower.

yup. We could have taken AP Physics B/C… I had a mixup and ended up taking ConPhys instead of Chem, which I’m still unhappy about.

Thanks ellopoppet!

Neither math nor physics is an absolute requirement to get in, but a Tufts admissions officer told me years ago that that’s something they like to see. Clearly an applicant can overcome the absence of either or both, especially if s/he is unusually strong in other areas, but it’s preferable not to have anything to overcome at all.

I don’t think there’s a problem. You’re in AP Calc BC, not exactly elementary math to most people. You’ve taken chemistry and some form of physics. Your SAT scores are great and you show leadership and dedication in your ECs. Write great essays and get good recs, and I’d be surprised if you weren’t accepted.
