Chance son for U Mich and other reaches

Have you seen this CS ranking site from Brown? Although I’ve seen it before, I hadn’t really explored it much. But when I selected “Information Visualization” as the only category, these were the top 10 finishers:

  1. U. of Utah
  2. U. of Maryland
  3. UC - Davis
  4. Virginia Tech
  5. Ohio State
  6. U. of Washington
  7. Harvard
  8. Georgia Tech
  9. Northwestern

9 (tie) Oregon State

(Yes, there was a tie for 9th…not a typo, but CC’s software was having issues with numbering.)

Rankings are not the be all and end all, but I think it’s at least a good source to find other schools to research for schools that have better odds for admission. Also, Wisconsin ranked higher than Michigan.

U Mich is hard to get into for OOS. My friend’s daughter- unweighted 4.0, perfect ACT, amazing EC’s and leadership, varsity athlete got into UPenn Wharton School but not U Mich.

Yes  I have seen these too… it’s based purely on publication volume - it’s useful to identify prolific researchers… but not so useful for a more wholesome view of the school and the possible opportunities for an undergrad. It’s definitely one tool in the toolbox.

I believe you might be referring to csrankings.org
This one from Brown aggregates multiple sources (including CSR) so it’s broader.

It can be helpful. If you’re interested in a particular CS discipline you can see who’s doing research and what type of professors they might be attracting.

Schools that are strong in AI might not be strong in Cybersecurity.

It’s just one more tool in the shed.

Thank you @DadOfJerseyGirl, @AustenNut and @chmcnm - you are right… I was thinking of csrankings.org. I haven’t seen this meta ranker you both were referring to, thank you.
