Chance student with low GPA?

What do you think my chances are of being accepted to the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities- College of Liberal Arts) if I have a 3.1 (unweighted) and a 3.3 (weighted) GPA (in one of the most competetive high schools in Oklahoma), and a 26 ACT. I have also participated in several extra curricular activities and participated in several leadership programs, and founded a non-profit organization in our community to promote responsible driving (the local newspapers have written about us, etc).

bumping again

Well, I looked online and I found that the average ACT for a student applying for the liberal arts school is a 27, so you’re a bit below that. Your GPA also isn’t a great booster. If you’re as active as you say you are in EC’s, those should help you a bunch, since your ACT isn’t that low to totally take you out of the race. I’d say you have a good chance, but you may be waitlisted as well. Try retaking the ACT and see if you can get about a 28 or at least a 27 on it. You should be able to raise it at least one point if you really study. =) Good luck!

Are you a senior?? Junior?? If you can, try and raise that GPA a bit. Also, maybe retake the ACT (as said above, 27 average) and get above a 27?? Have you taken the SAT?? Certain people do better on it than the ACT… Good luck!! Tell me how it turns out!!

Thanks guys, I’m going to be a senior this year.

well, if you’re going to be a senior, there might be a little improvement in your GPA, but nothing major. Again, I’d say best thing would be to retake the ACT or even the SAT, most people tend to do better the next time they take it. And if the school offers early decision applications, then go for that, because you’ll have a much better chance that way.

Thanks guys
