Chance the low-GPA bagpiper?

Just curious... Thanks in advance. Also, what do you guys think of the bag pipe thing? And working with the special needs students?

I attend a pretty well-ranked school in IL
ACT-34-35 range (took it once got a 34, but I think with some prep I could easily get it up to a 35)
Class not ranked
GPA-4.1-2ish (nothing stellar)

Macro
Micro
Calc BC
Comparative Gov't & Politics

I'm a member of a highly ranked bag pipe band, as a drummer.

Also four years of Chinese, and I intend to study economics.

Since you play a niche instrument, you probably already know there are a number of schools with pipe bands. If Dartmouth doesn’t work out, I think Carnegie Mellon has a bagpipe scholarship.

Wait… so do you play the bagpipe? or drums?

Sounds like you are a drummer, not a bagpiper.

You need to take some SATIIs. You will need 2 good scores, so you should sign up to take them this spring. Although it is theoretically possible to take 3 at one sitting, most people–including people who do really well on such things–don’t take more than 2 at once. You should probably take Math II and one other, possibly a subject in which you are currently taking the AP class. Be aware, though, that the AP class doesn’t necessarily cover all of the same subject matter as the SATII. Get a prep book and make sure you fill in any blank spots.

I assume that since you describe your GPA as “low,” it is either weighted or on a 5-point scale? Even if your school doesn’t rank, colleges will probably be able to figure out where you fall, roughly, by looking at your school’s profile. And, of course, they will see your transcript. Is it going to show mostly As with the occasional B?

First two years, 70/30 A/B, Junior 90/10 ratio.
