I'm looking to major in physics. I plan on getting a PhD in astronomy afterwards. I've got a large (or maybe not) list of schools I am interested in, but I'd like to know my chances at all of them. Money is not an object.

GPA: 3.75
Rank: top 15-20%ish
ACT: 31
AP Classes: AP Government, AP Environmental Science, AP Literature&Composition, AP psych

Been a member of marching band for 4 years, has played clarinet since 6th grade, piano since I was 5, so I am pretty good at each.

Envirothon for one year

NHS one year

Member of local astronomy organization

I've written some musical compositions but I don't know what to do with this.

I've done A+ Program, if you do a large amount of community service hours + job shadowing or internships + tutoring over the years you get this, so I've done a lot of that. Most schools do not give scholarships for it though.

fluent in French

I plan on applying to:

-Carleton College
-Colgate University
-Williams College
-Washington University in STL
-Lafayette College
-St Louis University
-Swathmore College
-Wesleyan University

I'm probably thinking of SLU as a safety because of my legacy there and our family connections, I'm pretty sure I could get in.

My son will be attending WUSTL this fall. They superscore the ACT, so that might help. While you don’t have a ton of activities (which is likely good ), you obviously have a passion for music. I don’t knowing about the other schools, but I think that if you show real passion for WUSTL you have a better chance than the average student.

Your ACT and GPA (you don’t specify W or UW) would be in the bottom quartile for Carleton, Colgate, Williams, WUSTL, Swarthmore and Wesleyan. This by itself would make you a long shot at these schools.

Having four AP classes is marginal in terms of rigor, but it will definitely hurt that they are all “AP lite” classes - except for English. If you are fluent in French, have you considered taking that AP exam and/or subject test? That would likely help.

You seem to be a better fit for SLU and Lafayette where your objective stats would vault you to the top quartile and might get you merit scholarships.

That is an UW Gpa, I’d have to find out what my weighted is. Ironically I am interested most in the schools you listed as longshosts because they’re all in the KNAC. I like all of the ones on my list, what are my chances I’d get into at least one of them?

I live in Saint Louis, so going to WUSTL or Slu would keep me right at home, but I’m not entirely too sure if I like the science department at SLU.
