Chance this girlie please:)

Basics:
Female from New York City. I go to one of those specialized high schools that you have to take a test to get in. It's ranked third out of eight schools in total. The school is very very very VERY small and very competitive. Less than 100 kids in my graduating class of 2010 (currently a junior.)
It's a science school but I'm not planning on majoring in anything science related in college.

Stats:
GPA: low :( around 87.00%, i know i can go up in this coming term and bring it up to a 90+ but it wouldn't really affect my overall gpa very much.
SAT (first time): CR - 610, M - 690, W - 710 --> 2010 in total
RETAKING IN OCTOBER: Pretty sure I'm going to get 2100+ but aiming for a 2200+
SAT II:
Biology: 660 US History: 670
retaking US and taking Math IC in a few weeks: plan to get 700+

Courseload
ALL CLASSES HONORS OR AP: downward trend :( but the course load increases and becomes more difficult each year.
Took AP Biology and AP US History this year
Biology: expecting 4-5
AP US History: I dont really know what to expect.

ECs
Part of the Student Senate for the March of Dimes (very well known, national health charity organization)
Key Club (all four years of high school)
Volunteered at a daycare (Went every school break i had)
Volunteered at a nursing home (three years of high school)
Math Team (all four years of high school)
School Orchestra (for two years, demanding school work made it hard to take orchestra)
Play the piano, violin, flute, guitar
Varsity Tennis (for three years)
Took a Chemistry and Adv Algebra College Course at City College of New York in summer after freshman year. - I got a B.
Took an Architecture Course for 6 credits at City College of New York in summer after sophmore year. (Yeah, really random but i was exploring possible career choices)- Got an A.
This summer I am attending a trip with Habitat for Humanity.

IN SENIOR YEAR:
I'n planning on taking AP Literature and possibly AP Calc.
MY SCHOOL IS SO WEIRD!
In total my school offers around 8 AP classes in total. In freshman and sophmore years, there were no opportunities for students to take any AP classes. In junior year, we were to choose from for AP classes (AP Chem, Bio, Physics and US. Had to choose one science and US if you wanted). It was recommended to take only 1 AP but I took 2. In senior year, I decided to only take AP Literature. Teachers in our always emphasizing the rigor of the classes at school but fail to give lenient grades and fail to look at the effort students put in but rather just numbers.

Planning on applying to:
1. NYU
2. Penn State UP
3. Boston University
4. Barnard College
5. University of Southern California
6. UC Berk
7. UC SB
8. SUNY Stonybrook
9. SUNY Geneseo
10. Boston College
11. Villanova University
12. and i guess CUNY Hunter as a safety. :(
i know many of these schools are out of my reach but i'd really like to know whether i have even a glimpse of hope :)
and i am applying to financial aid for schools, but my parents are willing to pay the full amount so i dont really know. will applying to financial aid hurt my chances?

Take your SATIs and IIs again. Definitely get your GPA up–actually, not necessarily your GPA but your rank (many more colleges like to see you in comparison to your class because raw GPA can be misleading). right now, your chances are not too great. I will chance you on the colleges I have experience with:

NYU: depend on which school you are applying to. If you do what I recommended, you might have a decent chance, but probably not to stern.

UCs. You really need good solid stats for UCs.They are actually very predictable in terms of acceptance. This is what they weigh your acceptance on–basically numbers. So you will need very high SATs (I and II), rank, and UC GPA in order to get accepted. An insightful and good essay is important as well. Your ECs are fine. (remember UCs do not accept letters of rec)

UC SB: good shot if you get your scores higher.

UC Berkeley: you really need good stats for this school. also the fact you are prob applying to L&S improve your chance. You will need mid 2200 on your SAT for Berkeley, most likely 5% rank, and mid 700 SAT IIs, since you are oos.

Thanks, I’m pretty sure I can get my SAT Is and IIs up, but I don’t know about my gpa. My ranking is not that low considering the majority of kids have a lower gpa than I do.
I’m planning on going to either Steinhardt or Gallatin. Haven’t decided yet
Thanks for info on the UC’s. I didn’t know much about them. Although NYU is my #1, I just really want to get out of the east coast :)

You should visit Berkeley. It’s a beautiful place + wonderful californian weather, plus it’s a great school. :)

Steinhardt and Gallatin have much higher acceptance rate, so your chances are better.

Good luck next year!
