Chance this student and you'll get into heaven!!!

Okay, maybe not.

I just got my SATII scores and honestly I'm kind of disappointed, so I was just wondering what my chances were at the following schools and whether or not these scores will be a major detriment. Thanks everyone!!! <3

Sex: F

School: College Prep (Private)

Class Rank: top 10% (I think 3 out of 90)

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.8 weighted

SATs: 780 CR, 770 W, 780 M (should I take them again in oct.?)

SATIIs: Bio E-720, MathI-740, Spanish-710 (which, if any, should I retake?)

AP classes: APSpanish, AP BC Calc, APEnglish Language, APStat, APPhysics

I skipped a year in math, so I am taking AP Calc as a junior

This year I took the Calc, Lit, and Spanish AP's...thought they went fairly well...4's and 5's let's hope!!!

My school is the most academically rigorous private school in Maryland, and the administration offers VERY few AP's b/c technically , EVERY class at my school is at the honors level....at least that's the explanation they give us....and we're told that our school has a "very distinguished reputation" with admissions officers....who really knows

Awards: Honor Roll every year, Cum Laude Society, Maryland Distinguished Scholar, National Merit Scholar (finalist I think), finished third in Maryland Math League Competition

ECs: Varsity Dance Co. (3 yrs), President and CoFounder of AIDS Awareness (a community service-based student organization), President of Christian Fellowship, Editor in Chief of School newspaper, 1 year of Student Government, President and CoFounder of Nothing But Nets chapter (fundraises for bed nets to stop the spread of malaria in Africa)

Community Service: spent last summer teaching dance to underprivileged girls

Also: I was accepted into and will attend the Columbia University summer program in Business, Finance, and Economics ans after returning from NY I will be interning at a private investment banking firm. Very strong essay writer, have become very close with two teachers whose recs I know will be very good (and your prof. @ columbia writes you a rec @ the end of the summer program)

Schools I'm applying to:
Columbia
Yale
Princeton
Wharton
Duke
William and Mary
UVA
Villanova

Okay so yeah, this turned out to be more like a novel than a post (sorry!) but if you guys could respond with ANY opinions, that would be FAB! And if you could do the reach/match/safety thing, that would be SO helpful!!!

There is absolutely no point in retaking your SAT's when you have a 2330. That is a good score, and when you get into the 2300's range, the slight differences don't help you anymore, because AdComs will be looking to other criteria. If you think you can score significantly better on your SAT II's, I suggest you try them again so that you can break 750.

Though it's good that you skipped a year in math, it would really just put you on par with many other applicants, many of whom take AP Calc BC in junior year. Also, your EC's are a little weak.

Although your community service and charity oriented EC's are noble, the rest do not suggest any focus or passion for one or two subjects. You are just overall well-rounded, which is worse than it sounds, because colleges like Columbia, Yale, Princeton, and Wharton want you to demonstrate what your passion is. Unless you write really stellar essays, I think these schools will be a reach for you.

you do NOT have to retake your SATs--- they're so close to perfect! and i think your ECs are fine, though they don't show much passion for your love of business finance stuff that you're devoting you summer too, so i agree with the previous poster that the only thing not BEAUTIFUL about your stats and such are you random ECS, so just write a great essay (which an EIC should be able to do (: ) and, at least in my mind, that'll replace your not-so-fab ECs.

Bump Bump Bump...

Bump again!

(Nobody else? :( )

Columbia REACH
Yale HIGH REACH
Princeton HIGH REACH
Wharton HIGH REACH
Duke IN
William and Mary IN
UVA IN
Villanova IN

Just got my AP scores for BC Calc, Spanish, and English Lit.....

5's on all of them! Does that improve my chances at all?

Thanks for the posts! :)

Well considering most of these colleges consider 5s on APs as de rigueur for any college applicant, I would say maybe a slight boost.

based on your ecs im thinking you might be looking into business related programs?

if so i'd consider retaking Math and aiming for 800. other than that, just aim for more 5s on all of your APs.

you might want to add 1 or 2 safe schools (i mean very safe schools) just in case something happens. admissions people at the top 20 schools are getting so unpredictable these days @@.

oh sorry didn't see that you got 5s...

in that case

ignore my thing about very safe schools...and just look at cookierus' post.
