Chance to get in as day vs. boarding students for Lawrenceville school

Have read somewhere it is more difficult to be admitted to Lawrenceville if applying as day students than as boarding students. Does anyone know if this is true? Any statistics of the admission rate for day vs boarding that can be shared would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

This is what we were told by admissions several years ago. You can ask directly at your interview.

Difficulty is hard to measure. My understanding is that in terms of pure chance, getting in as a day student is harder because so many people apply from the region. Per sq mi, many more people in NJ apply compared to the entire US, which is why it might be more competitive to get in as a day student. However, I don’t think it means that it is easier to get in as a boarder, because there are only like 90 spots for boys/girls entering as freshman boarders (for 50 states!) Basically, if you are applying to a very prestigious school internationally or from far, its likely that you are very talented, so for this reason I think its equally hard to get in as a boarder and day student.

No official stats that I’m aware of. From my son’s freshman directory at Lawrenceville, the entering class had a total of 155 kids. Almost the same number of boys/girls. Boarders made up about 70% of the total, the rest were day students.

I remember hearing at the freshman orientation that day students had higher GPAs vs their counterparts. And the general consensus is that its a lot harder to get in as a day student.
