Chance to transfer into another college at UT

Hello,
I intend to apply to the college of Science this year. If I am admitted, will I have a chance to transfer into Mc'Comb to study business?
Thanks in advance.

Transfering into another school withing UT is extremely hard, especially McCombs because it is the most selective school. Here is an example: my sister's boyfriend was an engineering major for 1.5 years, but then he decided to switch over into communications. He ended up in engineering for almost 2 more years because that's how hard it was for him to switch, and that was only into communications. I'm not saying that you'll have that much difficulty, but again, everyone I've talked to about transfering within the school says its near impossible at times. So if you want to transfer into McCombs, I wouldn't even bother transfering - just apply for McCombs in the beginning. It's not worth the hassle to switch, trust me.

Disclaimer: I haven't even been accepted as a freshman into McCombs.

However, take a look at the internal transfer page on their website.
<a href="http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/udean/admissions/internal.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/udean/admissions/internal.asp</a></p>

It seems that as long as you make sure to fulfill the requirements, and kick ass doing so by getting a 3.7 or greater, you have a good shot.

"A 3.7 or greater" especially as a freshman is not very easy. If you're taking 15 hours, that means you can get just 1 B in a 3 hour class.

Yeah, you have to be a stellar applicant to get in - those numbers are for really serious people. Again, personal experience shows just how hard transfering within UT is. There are 52,000 people there, unless you really stand out it's going to be tough. I just got into McCombs and am attending in Fall 2007, but I would still recommend you apply to McCombs initially if you really want to go there.

It seems so hard to get into Mc'Comb, but I will try ^_^
Thank you so much for your advice !!!!!!!!!!!!

I would disagree. I have several friends that have transferred into McCombs for their sophomore or junior years that weren't amazingly smart. Work hard...according to them, it's not insanely hard to transfer into McCombs.

But still, I've known a few extremely talented people who've had a hard time transfering within UT, and they had a stellar academic record at UT. I've never heard of transfering being easy at all. I almost applied to engineering, but after hearing about what a struggle it was to transfer I decided it was best to go into McCombs, and now I couldn't be happier with me decision. Maybe some people just got lucky.

What if I transferred from an engineering major to a liberal arts major?
Would switching out of engineering be easier than switching in, since supposedly engineering is difficult to switch into?

I've heard from people that the Liberal Arts school is the easiest to get into. Just look at the top 10 rule: they admit you to the liberal arts school if you can't get into any of your majors that you specified.

Yeah I'll probably be stuck in there anyway!!!
Which is fine with me of course.
My first choice is Plan II Honors and for my second choice I put Biomed Engineering.
But if I don't get Plan II Honors, I would like to do philosophy.
So I would rather be rejected from my second choice and get stuck in the liberal arts school than get my second choice...lol
