Chance UMich Computer Science OOS for Indian male rugby player :)

Hi All. I am a current senior at a suburban high school in Houston, TX. I really want to apply to UMich EA but was wondering if EA is binding. Could anyone enlighten me on the matter? Anyways, sorry about the chatter. Here are those cold, hard stats

ACT-planning to take...expecting around 32/33

Essays: working really hard on these...however not the best writer; much better speaker than writer
Teacher recommendation: AP Calculus teacher-don't know she's renowned for her recs but I only know her for like a month (we talk a lot, but I still don't know what she will write...maybe I'll drop a few hints or something)/Health Science teacher-not a known teacher but will write a really good rec because not many other people asked him for one so he said he will spend time on mine
Alumni Recommendation: Sub teacher-known her for a while/pretty good rec/also Duke recruiter
Counselor rec: generic/too many kids...but I plan to maybe help her write it because I know she might be overwhelmed and could use the help
Interview: Am really hoping for one because I know my stats are way too low for this school

Reach. Don’t bother sending your SAT II. I wouldn’t send some of your AP scores too… they’re pretty low.

EA is not binding. ED is.

Thanks Pat :)…but do you think my ec’s might not help me in terms of computer science? Also when I met binding, I meant is the EA restrictive in the sense that you cannot apply anywhere else ED or EA. Thanks for your response :)

Any other opinions  ?

You can apply to as many EA schools as you want. Your ECs are solid but literally almost everyone has impressive ECs.

Anyone else who would like to add anything?

Indian male rugby player :)

I thought that was an oxymoron.

^Very much so. But not in this case  haha. Anyone else with any input? I would just like to add that I am also now National Merit Commended with a score of 216, if that helps anything.

not a reach, a solid match, apply ea and I’d guess you’re in. don’t think you’ll get nerit money though.

EA is not at all restrictive. You can apply to as many other colleges you want, and if you get an offer from one of your EA colleges, you are under no obligation to accept.

Unfortunately your UW GPA is well below Michigan Engineering’s average of 3.9, your AP scores are not at all impressive and you’re a non-resident. Although your EC’s are pretty strong, as someone already pointed out, many people applying to Michigan will also have great EC’s. I would probably classify you as a slight reach.

Michigan typically doesn’t offer interviews. They seem to hold the philosophy that the essays are much more valuable than interviews ever could be, so unfortunately I doubt Michigan will give you the chance at one.
