chance? v.low verbal score!!

You have a good chance of gaining acceptance to one of your safeties.

How were your Michigan essays? Hopefully, they provided admissions with info about you rather than just your math and science interests/strengths. They probably will read them since your verbal is well below their average.

I'd give you 70% at michigan... some would say thats generous, but the only blemish on your application is the verbal score. everything else is excellent.

I'd say more like 50/50. It really depends on what they make of the verbal/english/non-science grades.

Um... the students I know have 6 to 10A's on GCSE. Your GCSE scores are not gonna help that much. You have to count on your IB scores to get you in.

I think you are borderline and Michigan is not a solid match for you. I'd strongly recommend that you also apply to Purdue.

UMrunner,
You really think a 36 (out of 42) IB score is good enough for Michigan? That's like a 3.4-3.5 GPA.

I guess I'm not familiar with IB scores, but if it's the equiv. of a 3.4/3.5 I would agree with you guys and say borderline.

36 is not including the bonus points... i am expecting to get 2-3 bonus points...

anyway thkxs for all ure comments

I was aware of the bonus points. That's why I said 36 out of 42. Most students I know who score 36 or more usually work hard enough to get 2-3 bonus points. These are the people you are competing with.

so then umich is a reach?? also take in consideration the fact that i applied pretty late... only a week before the deadline

btw is there a statistic for average IB points of those who got accepted to umich?

Applying late is not a problem. I know a few students applying the day before the deadline last year and got in. In your case, you would probably be 'deferred' even if you had applied in October as you are not a clear admit.

Look, I'm not saying you have no chance. I believe you are borderline and you do have a few things going for you.

I just think that you should consider applying to Purdue engineering as it is more like a safe match. The application is simple. It shouldn't take you more than an hour to complete it online. And usually you hear back in 4-6 weeks.

ok thx alot goblue uve been a real help.... i joined this forum only a few days ago... and it already gave me a new perspective to college applications and other information

thx alot especially goblue, alexandre, and umrunner

If one takes 6 IB exams such as myself, and I score 6's on all of them, thats 36 points out of the 42 possible. A 6 on any IB exam is excellent. By no means is a 36/42 average. I would say a 36/42 is superior. 37+ would be elite.

"You really think a 36 (out of 42) IB score is good enough for Michigan? That's like a 3.4-3.5 GPA"

You cant convert IB exam scores to GPA dude. Getting a 6 on IB HL math is WAY harder than scoring a perfect on for example AP Calc. The problem with US is that not alot of colleges understand the IB program. Only like 480 diploma programs in the country.

Michigan gives credit for HL's only, like most schools do, but they take scores of 5 or even 4 or higher on IB HL. Thus if one takes 4 HLs a score of 20/28 is sufficient. get ur facts right goblue.

Not over here. Let's look at some statistics:

In 2004, 93.7% of the IB candidates in Asia Pacific was awarded the Diploma, compared to 83.0% worldwide.

2005 results from an average schools here:

These are the kind of students the OP must compete with.

The OP has 36/42 plus 2-3 bonus which adds up to 38-39 (out of 45). Not a bad score, but certainly not elite when compared to the above.

Wait, is the OP an international?

yes i am from thailand.. but studying in an international school might help
