Chance!! Very unsure

So I'd say my grades are a mixture of B's and A's...in the end I project I'll have a 3.3 GPA and my goal is to get 2000 or above on SATs...I take a mix of Honors/AP and Regular courses, probably slightly leaning more towards the Honors/AP side

I also have my ECs

President of Class for 3 years
President of School 1 Year
Prominent Position in Student Government for 3 years
President of Model Congress
Led a Darfur Activist Group
Executive VP of an IDF support group
Active member in Business Club and possibly midlevel board position
Community Service in Africa 1 summer
Produced TV shows for my school district's cable TV station
Editor on newspaper for 3 years, possibly high level editing position 1 year
Wrote for local newspaper
Played on freshman Basketball team
Have spoken at the capitol Albany in favor of preventing gun violence and will continue to do so

Intern with my Assemblywoman for 4 years where I have received much praise from many of the local people I have worked with on her behalf (probably will also w/ congressman and or senator) and I also interned at the Royal United Services Institute "think-tank" for one summer

I took courses at Columbia University one summer and may take classes at another high level university in the future

Most likely will have great interviews and outstanding recommendations and most likely a great essay

My concern is that my GPA will be too low, but other than that everything seems to be in my favor...I'm a smart kid, but the high school setting isn't for me...in fact at times I feel it dumbs me down...I'm more of a leader/thinker

So based on the above, which has happened or chances are will happen what do you feel my chances of getting into the below schools are?? I'm currently a sophomore

Dreams: Haverford, Amherst, Brown, Columbia, Bowdoin, Georgetown, Michigan

Targets: Binghamton, Maryland, Wisconsin, Penn. St., NYU, Boston College, etc...

I am looking to Major in Political Science/Government...maybe the schools above aren't for me, but I'm just trying to get an idea

Of course I'm unaware of SAT II/AP scores yet and don't no about receiving many honors yet

I know I still have plenty of time and things that I need to accomplish, but I'm curious as to where you guys think I'm at currently??

Dreams-Match-Columbia-Reach
Targets-High Match-BC-Match
Good Luck!

dreams-reach

THANKS a lot, ik i have some time left in high school, but your opinions definitely helped me to get an idea of where i’m at

Question: When people label a school as a reach does that mean that the chances are very slim or you just shouldn’t consider it anything near a safety??

slim chance

got it, thanks for clearing things up

good chance at all, obviously “dreams” are harder than others.

Chance me back please

got u both, thanks and good luck

I think you have great chances to enter the class of 2015 at any of those colleges. It all depends on your SATs. Your GPA is pretty low though; I hope you can explain it positively. =)

On average:
Dreams: Haverford, Amherst, Brown, Columbia, Bowdoin, Georgetown, Michigan: 6.5

Targets: Binghamton, Maryland, Wisconsin, Penn. St., NYU, Boston College, etc…: 7.2-7.9 (exception: Boston College. To what I know this college is considered the best Catholic school in the world so I would put this one as dream also.

Recommendations:
-Try to take college classes (If possible in the USA) and school on summer or something similar to increase your GPA and/or put it in place of.
-Get more involved in your community (of what you have showed you will find this pretty simple.)

Good luck! And thank you for the chances!! =P

Sounds like a very fair and honest evaluation…hopefully I can bump up my GPA a bit

I honestly believe if you do early decision on any of colleges you should be able to get in.

thanks for the advice…i got u, good luck!!

You still have two more years to go so try to bring up your GPA and do really well on the SATs and you’ll be fine. Also try to volunteer a bit more.

For now, I think Georgetown, Brown, and Columbia are reaches, as they are for most everyone.

I know you’ll definitely get into Penn State.

I’d say the other ones are more or less matches.

Good Luck!! :]

all doable, things…thanks

bump, any one else care to give me adivce??? if so i’d greatly appreciate it

your dreams are reachs
targets are matches matches
good luck:)

ECs are great. Stats a little low for many of those schools. You might want to check the Common Data Sets for each to get a better idea.

good advice again, thanks for being realistic guys…it’s a great help!!

do you guys think that there’s a decent shot of me getting into at least one of the reaches?? and how much do u think bumping my GPA .1 or .2 points could help??
