Is there any chance for me?

You can do a lot of ECs, but your GPA indicates that you have Cs and Ds. Tough call, they won’t laugh, but they are not going to look at you first in line for sure: 15 percent chances.

Yeah, they will laugh!

I don’t know… dramatic writing, so I’m assuming you’re applying to Tisch. Half your application is based on your audition/portfolio, and I have heard of a few who have gotten in with a 3.2. You’re standardized tests do seem a bit low though…

i didn’t know that the awards category included awards that your school got and being an AP/IB student?

he’s just giving us info..
plus, there’s no place to list it for NYU, unless you’re adding an additional info section.

I listed school rankings under Academic Honors on the Common App because I couldn’t think of a better place to put it.

I think I will still apply, because it’s a dream school and I will always wonder.

Do not let “lower test scores” stop you from trying to get into your dream school, especially given that you are applying to Tisch and not for example Stern.

You mention you are interested in Dramatic Writing, so make sure to spend a lot of time writing your short essays and coming up with a creative personal statement. Definitely do not use your additional information space not to list your school’s awards, but rather find a way to high-light your own accomplishments, especially those related to writing, by writing an interesting additional piece. Good luck!

If you are an incredible writer, possibly. If you’re anything short of that, I think your stats are too low for admission.

Yeah…Tisch is JUST as selective as Stern..although obviously the admission criteria are different, it’s still just as competitive to get in. Academics ARE important at Tisch so CKG has it right…if your writing sample or samples are not truly outstandingly creative, you have a very low percentage chance.

Do you think I might be considered for GSP?

if i were you, i’d give it a shot. you really never know, so you might as well take the chance. if you don’t apply, you have no chance at all.

Hopeful2012er - one additional comment - be aware that NYU is not exactly known for providing a lot of financial aid.

I agree with Track87 that Tisch is very selective and as selective as Stern when it comes to offering admission, just in a different way. At Tisch, there is a chance that you will be able to overcome lower stats with superior artistic and creative qualities, which is why I told you to “go for it”.

Of course, I have not seen your work and am not qualified at all to determine if your writing is indeed superior. Keep in mind that NYU is an extremely expensive school however. I am not sure if you have thought of this. I know my own D has been saving ‘forever’ in order for her to even be allowed to apply for NYU this year.

Knock yourself out, your stats are low, but your’e an Under-represented Minority and a GUY, make sure those short answers and essays really kicked butt and cross your fingers

I know how notorious NYU is for bad financial aid – but I’m trying not to let that stop me right now.

Thanks for the advice! :)

i dont think theyll laugh at all. it will also help that you are hispanic and very involved.

i, however, was rejected from CAS early decision with a 3.3 GPA and a 30 ACT; i had a lot of extracurriculars too and i thought my essays were good. but then again im a white girl from suburban philadelphia.

but you never know, there was a kid on here who got accepted to CAS early decision with a 3.0/3.1 with similar scores to mine, but he was asian.

all you have to lose is the application fee. it hurts, as i know from experience, but it will hurt even more and youll regret it if you didnt try.

…or even though it’s a pain…transfer after freshman year.

im rerouting my application plans now since i literally had a breakdown after my rejection because i didnt want to go anywhere else, but put in the hard work freshman year and transfer. i definitely plan on doing this if my next choice college doesnt go beyond my expectations.

What’s your next choice, peanutbutter? I’m looking at Marymount Manhattan - I like their Communication Arts program, and with Creative Writing and Media Studies minors, I think I could make it work. They admit 77% and I fall within or above the stats of their average student. You could look into that if you want to get to NYC and then transfer to NYU.

I’ve considered transferring, and it will have to be decided down the road, because I could have internship(s), job(s), and connections that I don’t want to lose by switching schools. I’ll have to see - but I’m keeping that open as an option.
