Chances for Tisch RD!

I was rejected from Northwestern on Friday, but I'm excited about the news possibilities ahead. NYU is my second choice- I've completed (but haven't sent) my Tisch Dramatic Writing App.
Any advice/predictions?

My stats (I transferred from a 200-person K-12 school to a 2200-person school):
The short version: I make mostly As. Spattering of Bs in Math and French. The semester I transferred, my grades plummeted. Brought them up by about 10 points each. GPA is about a 4.0, but it’s hard to judge. Class rank at old school would probably have been 10/60, but going off junior year alone was 96/402. The only AP I was offered my first 3 years was US History, scored a 3.
Senior courses:
AP Lit (A)
AP French lang. (B)
AP Calculus (B)
Auditioned Cabaret Ensemble (A)
Civic &Economics (state req.) (A)
Earth Science (state req.) (A)
Health (state req.) A

Spiffy Things:
-NHS
-Headmaster’s Honor Roll
-1420 710M710V
-Writing, 790
-Math II 660
-French 640
-About 15 plays/musicals with different organizations and schools (including NHSI at Northwestern, Duke, and Phillips Andover); directing Metamorphoses at Duke this spring
-2 Years Varsity Hockey and one of basketball
-Worked year at a TCBY
-Won the poetry and short fiction contests at my old school
-Four year staff member of newspaper and lit mag
-Mentor to this really awesome girl whom I looooove.
-Class secretary 9th, 10th
-Church/missions to inner-city San Antonio
-Not that they really care, but I run about 25 miles a week.

I think my recs were very solid.

Essay was a sort of self-mockery talking about myself and the hilarity of my two handicapped parents during my school switch, as compared to a tabloid-stalked celebrity, with a recurring theme of static versus kinetic energy. Needless to say, ‘twas unique.

What do you think?

bump for adviceee

stats are fine, just have a good portfolio

why don't you apply to the School of Social Work?
Your stats are big low compare to the average SSW stats but still, you never know.

is that just a lot easier to get into or something? i dont know if i'd really be interested in that. what do you mean "big low" for SoSW?

i meant to say "bit low"
which means the stats are lower than those of the average SSW.

want more of that school? check my thread dedicated to that school.

hazelbites,

Your stats are ABOVE average, NOT below. Check the ED thread; someone got into Tisch with 1180 and 1220.

The average for NYU this year is 1410 ED, meaning presumably the RD may be significantly higher, especially if they let alot of people in ED. So his SAT score may in fact be a little low actually, yet Tisch cares more about auditions, so make sure you do well

Mattistotle:

1) i'm a girl
2) you send in a portfolio for dramatic writing (no audition...)
3) do you know last year's mean ED/RD SATs?
4) did you apply/get in/enroll/etc?

thanks

Even though there's no audition, I think the point that mattistotle is trying to get across is that your audition, or in this case -- your portfolio will pull a lot of weight in their decision on your application. If you're work is good, I think they'll accept you even if your stats are below the average.

And I think Mattistotle got into Stern, however I could be wrong.

last years average SAT score for all the school was 1360(dont know the individual break downs, not ED/RD breakdowns), this year ED average was 1410 for ED, with Stern being sligthly higher and Tisch being slightly below.... im assuming RD may have an SAT average higher than ED average, Im not sure though. Yes tehre have been people who got into Tisch with 1200's, thus my point about emphasis on portfolio, people with 1350+ have also been rejected many a time. I have also seen lots and lots of people who got into Tisch ED, just as much as have got into CAS really. Im not sur ehow big Tisch is, but I think they let alot in ED, so that also means less space. Most of what im saying is speculation though, so just have a really good dramatic writing thang lol.... Yes i got into Stern

Also northwesterrn has a slightly higher acceptance rate than NYU I bevieve... you should find out why you got rejected from there.

The RD acceptance rates are pretty similar between NU and NYU. But thanks for your advice, everyone. Do colleges tell you why you didnt get accepted? I always figured it would be some BS like "well, we never pin a decision down to one factor... it's always a combination of strengths and weaknesses..." etcetera. But I would surmise it's my grades- NU is only really after A scholars.

KASDHFASFDhh I'm nervous.
Do you think it would be smarter to stick to my 25 page limit on my portfolio or send the entirety of my play?

hazelbites --

im applying to the dramatic writing program as well, same sat 1 score too! ;] I would stick to the limit as closely as possible on the portfolio, though, maybe you should submit it in its entirety if you feel like it really shows your best work. good luck :}

cool! you're literally the first tisch dw applicant i've seen besides myself.

hazelbites, I would definitely not send more than 25 pages in your portfolio, especially when what they're requesting is 5-25 pages. Complying with the requirements is always a good idea. :)

hazelbites - If you know want to know why you got rejected from a particular college, you can call the admissions office. I know that NYU will tell you why they did not accept you so maybe other colleges will too.
