There are a lot of “chance me” posts on this page, so I thought I would provide the information you need to chance yourself. Data for Clemson and nearly every other college is readily available online.
According to the Clemson’s 2017 Common Data Set:
47% of freshman applicants were admitted
What does Clemson look at?
Very Important: Rigor, rank, GPA, test scores, state residency
Important: alumni relation
Considered: essay, recommendations, extra curriculars, talent/ability
Not considered: interview, character/personal qualities, first generation college, geographical location, religion, race, volunteer work, work experience, level of interest
In summary, they mainly look at your stats, so the higher your stats, the higher your chances of admission.
The middle 50% of admitted students scored 1220-1390 on the SAT. That means 25% scored higher than 1390 and 25% scored lower than 1220. Their ACT middle 50% is 27-31.
62% of admitted students were in the top 10% of their class. 91% were in the top 25%.
91% had a GPA of 3.75 of higher.
So, if you want to know what your chances are, consider what Clemson deems most important:
Rigor, rank, GPA, test scores, state residency
Did you take lots of AP classes?
Are you ranked in the top 25% of your class? Or better yet, top 10%?
Is your GPA over 3.75?
Does your standardized test score fit into the high end of their average?
Are you a South Carolina resident?
If you have a lot of “yes” answers to these questions, your chances are good. Keep in mind that some majors are more difficult to get into than others.
If you answered no to these questions, your chances may not be good. If you have lower stats, but amazing extracurriculars, you might want to look at schools that put more weight on your strengths.
