Co-President of Kids for Kids- Me and a friend presented this club to student council and got it approved. It is now very successful and we make thousands of dollars a year. All proceeds that the club raises goes towards buying Backpacks and school supplies for children in Trenton, NJ who are unable to afford them. Total raised so far is close to $5,000.

Peer Leader - an extremely selective program where a group of students are looked upon as role models for the school. 10 students (5 M/5 F) chosen for each grade of 400.

Red Cross Youth Council- elected to organize events for the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey including the large Dance-a-thon event.

Project Pride Mentor- also required an intensive application. We go to the middle school and work with a group of less social students on communication and teamwork skills.

Founders Day- volunteer at the township carnival every year.

Red Cross Club- blood drives and publicity.

Over Spring Break I visited New Orleans for a week to work on social and environmental projects including the rebuilding of 2 homes and the planting greenery in the gulf to stabilize the soil. We also worked on preparing baskets (with games and coloring books and that kind of stuff) for the children when they move into their new homes.

Work Experience:
Internship at Rider University working on Research of anti-cancer/anti-viral drugs. This inernship is paid and only 3 highschool students were chosen in NJ. Did I mention it was paid?

Lifeguard for 3 years.

Entrepreneur: designed and ordered sweatpants with a friend and sold them to classmates. Surprisingly made a decent amount of money off of them (Should I include this?)

As of now, I am planning on applying ED in the fall. I will be visiting the school next month and if I love it then I will be. How do you think I would stand in the regular admissions pool?

No real weaknesses in your stats, Excellent Grades, ACTs and ECs. Assuming your essays and recs are good, Excellent chance ED, Very Good Chance (at least) RD.

FWIW – When you visit schools, I’d ask if it’s worth retaking the Math II with a 750. Sure you might be able to raise it, but it may not make any meaningful difference in your chances.

Thanks zephyr.

Also, something that may be important to know is that I took the ACT twice.
1st time: C-33, E-35, M-33, R-31, S-31, E/W-31, Essay- 08
2nd time: C-30, E-33, M-35, R-24, S-27, E/W- 32, Essay- 10

I am pretty worried about the 24 and 27 in the second time taking it because they are so low. I really want to send the second score though because I rose my score in both Math, E/W, and on the essay. Will these 2 low scores hurt me?

Your are definitley going to get in. Northwestern will be happy to accept you!!!

ahcollege:

I believe Northwestern superscores ACT (but check it out), so in theory it shouldn’t hurt.

In reality, I don’t know. Obviously anything that is submitted can be considered in some fashion. Since decisions are made by humans and are somewhat subjective, who knows what sticks in an admissions officer’s head when deciding between two qualified candidates. So,worry might be too strong a term, but No one really knows.

Overall, I think you’re a strong candidate regardless.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses.

Also, if you are wondering where my rank is, you are not going to find it. My school doesn’t rank, but it is very highly regarded. We are a blue ribbon school and have the #3 highest average SAT scores in the state of NJ.

Anybody else?

Don’t do the entrepreneur thing. You have a good chance.
