I have a little above a 5.0 weighted GPA, around a 3.8 unweighted Cumulative GPA, and a 30 on the ACT. I plan to retake the ACT next month, and hope to improve my score to at least a 32, since I am rigorously preparing using a Princeton Review book, and I did not study the first time I took the ACT. I have played Lacrosse four years, with one varsity letter, am the president of Sierra Club, a member of National Honor Society, and participate in other various clubs. I have completed four summer internships in New York City for a small tech start-up as a tech/finance intern, and I anticipate pursuing Computer Science as my major. The CEO of this start up, along with two teachers who attended UNC Chapel Hill are writing letters of recommendation for me. Obviously, even the strongest of applicants should consider a school like Cornell to be a reach school, and I am well aware that it is unlikely I will get in, however I was curious to receive input from you guys regarding my chances? Thanks.

I will be applying to the college of arts and sciences.

I think you’re a fair competitor, with a good shot. Your extracurriculars are your strong point. I got a 30 on the ACT as well, and I just received a 31 on my second try so I’m debating on retaking as well. Are you applying ED?

I’m not entirely sure. What would your recommendation (and anyone out there viewing this) be? From my understanding, Early decision/action for Ivies is typically comprised of the absolutely most competitive students, so I wasn’t sure if I should apply with that group or just wait until regular?

I should note that I am also applying to Yale and Columbia. I highly doubt I would even be considered for admission to those schools, but this is also something to consider in regards to early decision, because if I did somehow get accepted to either of those, it would be hard to turn them down for Cornell (no offense intended for Cornell, as it is an exceptional institution).
