Hey, fellow Indian here that’s going to be applying to many of the same schools haha! :)

I agree with the many others here. Those grades are really going to hurt you when you’re applying to colleges UNLESS (I apologize if you already answered this) your school is known for grade deflation.

I remember this one fellow who was accepted to one of HYP with a 2.43 GPA, but only because he was ranked 2 and his school had some serious grade deflation.

So while many people on this thread are correct in saying your chances are low, it really comes down to your class rank. If you don’t know exact rank, do you know decile or some other similar information?

Hey energy*sum of the force:) Yes the grades will hurt me, and unfortunately, my school doesn’t do grade deflation. No, my school doesn’t do rank, but I do think i am definitely in the top 25% at my school.

If you got C’s and B’s junior year, don’t apply early anywhere, it only hurts you. If you get all A’s (preferably A+s), then you have more of a chance at the colleges you want to go to. WITHOUT IT, you will almost surely be rejected from all of the schools on your list. Also, don’t take community college classes. A lot of the time they are easier than HS courses. If you were taking classes at say Harvard over the summer, and you got A- or above for everything, then it would help by CC courses do not help you application.

Your application seems to be all over the place without a really steady focus. Just from reading your list, I can’t tell anything about your personality or ability. Simply because of this and those really really bad grades junior year, I would say you don’t have a chance at any of the schools you listed.

If and only if you get straight As for first semester senior year, you have a chance of getting into something and you might as well roll the dice assuming you have the money to pay for all these applications and the time to do them all in addition to 9-10 other schools safety schools around the level of Cal Poly Slo, or Purdue.

I’d like to say you have a chance, but really it will all depend on you keep improving your ECs and getting perfect grades for 1st semester senior year.

An upward trend for senior year will be greatly helpful! And you might want to choose only a few reaches to apply to cause of cost, I applied to 15 schools (9 reaches) and that was a bit much. I had a 3.85 when I applied and that probably hurt me a little bit, but I was in top 3% rank. I had 4 B’s and 7 AP’s when I applied and a 35 ACT, so sorta a similar boat you are in. I also took a spanish course, an earth science course, and an intro engineering course at my local community college! I believe these courses showed I was interested in learning even when I didn’t have to and showed I would go above and beyond what my high school offered, which was a positive for my application. I was rejected from 3 reaches (Yale, Brown, Swarthmore), waitlisted but pursued none of 3 reaches (Amherst, Bowdoin, Pomona) and accepted at 3 reaches (Vassar, Wesleyan, UChicago) I highly suggest applying to UChicago! It is the school with the lowest acceptance rate I got into, and I believe this is because of essays, interview, and my EC’s. Sorta the same with Vassar and Wesleyan, UChicago is a bit quirky and weird which fit me well, so fit helps! I will be matriculating at UChicago and I love the school! The campus is beautiful, the people are amazing, diverse and incredibly intelligent and quirky, and I was happily admitted even without a hook and a record low acceptance rate. I really wish you the best of luck, cause that is just what you need sometimes.

PAGRok: Hello:) I do believe an upward trend will be possible for me! However, regarding UChicago, keep in mind that you had a 3.85, where as I have a 3.69 UW, 4.26 W, meaning 9 B’s and 2 C+'s. I do have 5 AP’s under my belt, and will be taking 4 more next year. Yes, my scores do look positive, but compared to my GPA would that really help? I do hope the CC courses help! I feel that having a total of 3-5 courses this summer, along with a full time job at Fermilab, and a copy of my piano supplement will help me (I was hoping, for Yale, because of its focus in music, but now I’m not too sure. All I have is the musical ability, test scores, and recs. Not the grades). Also, is my application, in your opinion, not focused enough? Everyone else is saying that they can’t identify who I am, but I think it’s rather clear. I’m a girl who cares about the community, and loves the arts, and has a passion for math and science (And talent for it, not shown through my grades, unfortunately (B and C’s), but through my subject tests). Any advice would be great!

I was attempting to prove you don’t need a flawless academic record to be admitted. My weighted was lower than yours too. The C’s will badly hurt your chances, but that should motivate you even more to write incredible essays, do amazing interviews, work hard at your multitude of EC’s. And If you explain who you are in your essays and interviews that will greatly help explain all your EC interests. I have heard Yale likes music, but only send a supplement if you are really good, at the level of college music. If not, the supplement will not help. And if it is a good music supplement , send it to all your schools, not just Yale!

PAGRok: Thank you so much:) I’ll be sure to work hard at my EC’s next year, and my essays. If I do get an interview, not to worry, I’ll give it my all:) The piece I’m playing for my music supplement is this: [Evgeny Kissin La Campanella - YouTube](<a href=“Evgeny Kissin La Campanella - YouTube”>Evgeny Kissin La Campanella - YouTube)
I definitely feel that it is at a high enough level, but do tell me if you do not think so:) Thanks again!
