Chancellor's Honors Program

My son has been accepted into the UT Chancellor's Honors Program. He attended a signing ceremony today. I've read all of the information on the UT website, but can anyone provide more information about the advantages/disadvantages, good things/bad things, etc. about this program?
Thanks.

S got invited to the 2010 Scholars Invitational this Fall. We wonder what it is and the quality of the Honors program at UT.

If it’s a full paid scholarship then that’s great considering UTK typically offers very poor institutional aid. If you don’t get the HOPE, Pell, Stafford loans or some other form of state or federal aid you’re usually screwed.

I’m sure they’ve been offered this because of very high GPAs and ACT scores, just be careful. High school is an entirely different ballpark. A component of this program is in needing to take honors courses the first year. As it stands many of the first year courses, especially engineering ones such as Chem 120, Math 141 (calc 1), Eningeering Fundamentals 151, are already made extremely difficult to weed out students. I don’t know how honor versions of these courses may work, it’s possible they may be much better due to the university not wanting to weed out people in the honors program. Ive talked with many engineers who have lost their HOPE scholarship just from a few of these weed out classes. Chemistry is especially ridiculous.

Just saying don’t underestimate the difficulty of course work at this university.

I just applied to the honors program at Tennessee…we’ll see how it goes
