I do know that last year’s applicants had to pay for their airfare and hotel expenses, but I’ve never heard of someone’s award going up just because they attended the interview but weren’t given the Chancellor’s.

If someone from last year could clarify that would be great.

I’m paying for the hotel and driving expenses (I’m in-state), so no, they do not reimburse you. The interview itself costs nothing, just the travel and hotel expenses.

The only increase in award I’ve heard of is if someone does not receive full tuition originally (say, they receive a $10,000 per year chancellors nominee), but is invited to interview, their award can be bumped to full tuition if they attend. If you have full tuition already, unless you get the actual chancellor’s scholarship, you’re already capped.

Regarding missing the “cutoffs” for GPA, test scores, etc.: There are no such cutoffs. The figures they post are typical of those invited to apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship, but not strict requirements. I personally know two kids who were invited to apply (one successfully) who met neither the suggested class rank nor GPA, but who had other factors strongly in their favor. No one should assume they won’t get it based on falling short in any one area. The committee apparently looks at the whole application and exercises some judgment.

So I rarely ever post on here…but im excited to have stumbled upon this thread. I will be sending out my chancellor’s application tomorrow morning and I was wondering if anyone knew what the average wait for an interview response is.
And does it bug anyone else the the scholarship’s site has been updated in like two years?

I saw a schedule, which I can’t find now, with date ranges for applications, interviews, and notifications. The dates were only estimates, but they seemed to indicate that you should get a response to your application within 4 to 6 weeks. I think they must deliberately keep it vague in order to preserve flexibility.

If anyone has a link to that schedule, could you re-post it?

Hi mantori.suzuki THis might be it - off of the apllication website:

I hope they’re flexible about interview dates, because if my son’s invited, we are definitely going, but we can’t drop everything and do it on any arbitrary date; we’ll need time to plan. I’m sure we’re not the only ones in that situation.

D sent in her Chancellor’s app packet last week. She was also invited to apply for the Guaranteed Med School admit program. If she does get selected for interviews in both (crosses fingers and toes), is it possible to get a back-to-back interview schedule so that we can do this in one trip? Has anyone been in (or is aware of) this situation? Thanks.

Right before Thanksgiving, which was about a week and a half or two weeks after the person who started the thread, and they found out a few weeks ago.

To everyone who has already sent in their application… did you get any kind of confirmation from the selection committee of its receipt. I sent mine out on Monday, and my tracking said that it was received this morning- obviously im not expecting anything immediate… just wondering as i hadn’t read anything about it.
