Chances after tough high school

I live in northern New Jersey and go to a prestigious high school. My GPA is 3.3 and i have not taken the SATs yet. I am in the Italian Honor Society, Italian Club, Speak Out, and did crew and volleyball as an underclassman. I know i could have done better, but in freshman year my parents separated, and in sophomore year i needed brain surgery. I did well in junior year. If I include these 2 issues in my essay (im a good writer), how much will they be concidered?

If you have ideas for my chances in these schools please add. I am a NJ resident.

I don’t know enough about any of those schools besides UMD, but I will respond (in the future give it a day before you bump). I don’t think you parents separating will really help, it is fairly common thing in the US and if every student let that get to them we would have a lot more people with low GPAs. As for the brian surgery, that could help, if it happened in June and you were fully recovered by the time you got back to school, not so much, but if it happened during the school year it probably will help. It is sort of an issue that you have not taken the SAT/ACT yet, mainly because you will only have one shot to get the score you want. Oh and as for UMD it will be a reach, your GPA is slightly low and my guess is your SAT will be too.
