Chances: also, what's the gay life like?

I was just wondering if I had any chance of getting into Columbia? Here are my stat:

SAT: 1930
GPA: 4.15
senior schedule: 7 AP classes

Also, I am a gay student and also a quadruplet; I was thinking of putting that in my essays. Also, I was wondering how accepting the general campus is of homosexuals. I am a "straight" homosexual, meaning I am masculine. Just wondering how accepting the other males are of gays. Please no hate messages. Thanks!

what ec's do you have? Your SATs are o.k but taking it again wont hurt. People do get in with 1930's and even lower(well ppl that ive read about) but you should take it one more time to get at least a 2000 or above. That's cool that you're very open with your status as a homosexual student. Good luck with getting in...im applying for class of '11 too!!

Thanks a lot; that makes me feel better! My EC's are decent:

Key Club 9-11
National Honor Society 11
Student Council Association- Sophomore class representative and Vice President this coming year.
Grant Committee- Treasurer 9
DECA 11
FBLA 10
Tutoring 1 hour/week
Walk for the homeless in D.C
Relay for Life

I'm definitely taking the SAT's again, because I kind of blew off the last one. Thanks again for the support, and good luck with getting into your top choice!

Yeah, you'll have to work a bit harder to get in Collumbia, especially on your SATs. I visited columbia and they want to really know if you are "well read". So read a lot of everything, newspapers magaizines, classics, and the like.

Question, are all your sibilings identical, some, and if so, are any of them also gay? just wondering

I don't think you need to worry about the gay scene in NYC.

there are a lot of gay men at columbia, which is good for the guys, but kind of sucks for the straight girls (limits their options, no?).

Thanks. I know I need to work on the SATs; I've only taken them the one time, so it was kind of a shock when it was 5 hours long. But I have one more chance to take it before ED and I'm determined not to ruin it.

Luckily, I'm an avid reader and I read the Washington Post every morning, so hopefully that will help.

No, none of my siblings are identical. Supposedly, according to the doctors, I'm identical to my brother, but we are completely different. And I don't think any of them are gay, although I do have my suspicions. And I'm only out to my two sisters, not the brother.

Do you go to Columbia?

haha, thanks vrgulati. This is making me feel a lot more secure about being openly gay in college!

Um, it is also true that "there are a lot of lesbian chicks at columbia, which is good for the straight chicks, but kind of sucks for the straight guys." So, it all evens itself out.

really?

bummer.

bummer.

Why's it a bummer? You wouldn't want to be dating / hooking up with the butch chicks, were they not into other butch chicks.

Actually the male/ female ratio at Columbia is significantly skewed in the males favor. Anyway, you need a 2200ish SAT to be competitive (I am assuming the ECs are strong) which is going to take some serious studying. I've seen such score increases, but only after serious studying.

I haven't noticed much "gay life" on campus; I suppose one would have to earnestly seek it out. Most of the gay people I know here are not as outwardly gay (i.e., they do not express this as a fundamental aspect of their identity) as those at NYU, which often feels like it has a gay minority. I rather like the degree of sexual-orientation integration that exists here, though one who pines for large and vocal "pride" celebrations may prefer the university- and culture -downtown.

As for lesbians, I personally know none here, though Barnard is rumored to contain many.
