Your chances of admission are excellent but you will need to "show interest" by applying Early Action (nonbinding) or answer the question "why Northeastern vs. other schools". Your chances for a scholarship are pretty good as well. If you get admitted, perhaps you can help fix the mess that we have in Boston known as the "Big Dig."

Thanks for the reply. What is Northesatern's policy for early action? Also while I was on their site they have a couple full tuition and room and board schoalrships, along with full tuition alone. But what I noticed was that most of them say "how the student will lead toa diverse student body" so does that mean those 3 or so full tuition and room and boards that say that are only available to URMs? Seems a little unfair to have that a determining factor for 3 schoalrships and then only have one for (guessing white people) and only enroll 25 students through that.

Thanks for any help.

EA is not binding...I would definitely recommend. My son did it that way, is entering as a freshman in the fall. He did not commit till he heard from his other regular decision schools. But with non-binding EA you are showing interest, you are getting in line for any merit money, and if you are accepted then you can breathe a little easier during the wait for the other schools. Look carefully at the full tuition scholarships, some have very specific requirements and are set aside for instance one is for students who are coming out of the local area public schools. Northeastern is pretty good with Dean's Scholarships though, which max out at $16,000 per year. If you are in the top group of applicants and you apply EA you probably have a good shot at some merit money that way. By the way, look at the stats on other posts on this site. Lots of EA applicants in the last cycle. Oh, forgot to mention if you get accepted EA and you get in the honors program you can decide fairly early on and get priority (better) housing.

If you are accepted, you may also receive a financial grant, my son is receiving about $6000 in grants as well as a Dean's scholarship and our family income is a little higher than yours. Also, honors freshmen live in suite/apartment style housing rather than standard dorm rooms.

Thanks scansmom, I should have clarified, I was talking about merit aid only. Of course, need based aid is always out there.

Thanks for the replies. When is Northeastern's EA app due?

I reread the scholarship info and I'm mainly concerned with the full tuition and full tuition and room and board ones. I see the first one is for everything and only 25 people get it. Then I see two other fulls that are about how you can add diversity to Northeastern....they're equal in scholarship money but the requirements for sat scores are lower...I don't get that. And these weren't the ones for local Boston high school graduates. Am I overlooking something involved in this?

New dates aren't up yet. Last year EA deadline was 11/15/05. The most important thing is to download the teacher rec forms early and get the teachers and your GC working on the recs. The second scholarship you see says how the applicant can add diversity..they mean that they are looking for students who fall in under-represented categories...i.e. if they are looking to enroll more Asian males and you are one...so yes, the sat scores are lower..

Ok thanks for the reply. That's what i thought it meant...I just didn't think that they'd lower the requirements to get an equivalent schoalrship just because of race....but I guess they do. Just seems like a backwards racism to me, but I know why colleges say they do it.
