Just wondering what my chances were, and a quick question. Would applying EA be worth it? my stats:

GPA=3.6/4. I go to a nationally known prep school. They don't offer AP or Honors classes exactly, but claim that all their classes are taught at that level. Im in my Junior Year this year, and will be taking 2 or 3 APs at the end of this year.

SAT=taking later this month, practice tests show around 2000 comp, studying to improve to 2200

ACT=taken once, 32. Retaking in october, studying for improvement to 34

EC: Baseball 2 years, Basketball 3 years, Republican Club (Board position), Economics Club (Co-founder)

100 hours community service

currently doing an internship at the Chicago Board of Trade, will have done it for all of junior yr and the beginning of senior year when applying to UC.

Race: pacific islander

I can write good essays, and should be able to get some good recs.

I will update more when i retake ACT and SAT, just give your input for now. Thanks

Keep up the good work. The Chicago Board of Trade internship sounds pretty interesting. Don't let your grades or health suffer with the silly standardized tests - I bet your ACT will go up by itself with an additional year of schoolwork and familiarity with the test.

If possible, do a couple of college tours junior year or during the summer. If you have your short list defined by next September, it will be a lot easier on you. Essays are important - especially at Chicago - and if you have time to think, they will be better (note that some kids like writing under pressure - if you are one of them ignore this advice, lol). Best of luck!

Would applying EA be helpful? How does UC look at EA applicants (as compared to normal). I know, for example, that UPenn admits a significantly higher percentage of its ED appplicants than its RD ones.

Also, how does EA affect grant/scholarship money? I've heard all the stories about how applying early can lessen the amount of money offered to you, especially in an ED because the choice is binding.

Everyone should apply EA! Especially if you are in my territory.

Financial aid estimates are given to students who are admitted EAA, and the financial aid award will come later. Merit scholarships are only given out in April, so you will have to wait until then to find out if you have received a merit award.

We admit at the same rate EA and RN - around 40%.
