!! chances, and engineering

hey guys,
i'm trying to decide if i should apply undeclared, or into engineering. i know its more difficult to get into the college of engineering (i'm thinking civil eng), but at the same time, its supposed to be really hard to transfer in from college of L&S.

I'm not sure what i wanna do in the future. engineering might be something i'm interested in. At the same time, i want to goto UCLA!!!

you can take a look at some of my stats. i dunno, i think my high school is pretty competitive, especially for a public ><

my UC gpa is around 3.92
sat i: 2160, m:790, v:700, w:670
subject SATs: mathIIc: 800, US hist: 720, chem: 650 =/

I do lots of music activities: jazz band, school band, outside symphony, lead/principal trumpet etc etc

Not too much communitiy service, I did an internship at an architecture firm over the summer though.

..haha.. do you think i can even get into ucla at all!!?? aaaah. i'm stressing haha.

umm, haha, i dunno, ask me if theres anything else you wanna know. I'd appreciate any feedback.

cjdoor:

UCLA: Slight Reach (Engineering)

ooh, i see. ok thanks! hmm..

does college of L&S have lots to offer as well? b/c i was looking through all their majors, and i couldnt exactly find something that i could see myself doing in the future and as a profession..

haha, well, i guess that really depends on my own personal feelings eh? and i am still just in high school, so i guess its hard to know what i want to do already

is anybody in college of L&S or college of Engineering? whats your major, and what do you think?

I'm in the School of Engineering (Computer Science major).
It's hell... I'm programming/studying five hours a day and still falling behind.

I'm a first year in L&S under biology. It's okay. I can't say much about it now because well it's my first quarter haha and it's just all pre. reqs. right now. but my cluster is killing me haha.

..i heard about bio clusters, just that they're hard. er.. what are they exactly??

Your chances of getting into UCLA will be severely reduced if you apply for an engineering major.

mm.. tough decisions

does anybody know what the stats are for admitted engineering students? (as opposed to the averages they give for all ucla students in general). or do they not have any specific numbers

Average freshman SAT -1430
" " GPA - 3.82

These are for ME and AE but I presume that the other majors would have similar stats.

oh woww, really? thats a little lower than i thought itd be. i thought general ucla gpa was 4.1 or something.. so i figured engineering would surely be higher. or maybe 3.82 is unw

anyways thanks alot =] thats awesome.

I'm pretty sure the average engineering freshman's weighted GPA is at least 4.12, since the average UCLA admit's weighted GPA is 4.12 and School of Engineering admits have higher stats across the board. It would make more sense if 3.82 was the unweighted GPA.

cjdoor, you rock!

what is the difference of ucberkeley engineering and ucla engineering in terms of getting accepted

uhhh... elaborate on that please

I am certain that it is generally harder to get into UCB Engineering than UCLA Engineering because it has a reputation of being as selective as MIT, Caltech and Stanford for its engineering school, especially EECS. I've heard that the acceptance rate for UCB Engineering hovers around 12%, while the UCLA Engineering acceptance rate hovers around 20%.

I've read an article from the Daily Cal stating EECS acceptance rate is 11%

The article was 3 years old.

UC Berkeley: Top 3 engineering school (undergraduate/graduate)

UCLA: Top 25 engineering school (undergraduate/graduate)

And yes, UC Berkeley is crazy in engineering. Seriously, take it from a engineering major who goes there. Competition is way off the roof, exams are brutal, and finals are a journey through hell.

I guess that is why the average engineering GPA is around a 2.8. And also, EECS and Chemical Engineering tend to be the hardest engineering majors (also with the lowest GPA's).

Any questions, you can PM me.

What was your major?
