Chances and suggestions for Fall 2010?

I'm currently a community college student compiling a list of schools to apply to for a Fall 2010 transfer. My ultimate goal is to end up on Wall street (banking, S&T, PE, HF) so I'm looking for schools that will give me the best chance of doing so. These are my stats thus far:

4.0 over 25 credits. I anticipate keeping this (if not, at least a 3.8+) over a total of 60 or so credits.

SATs aren't worth mentioning. I'm going to retake them and also take the ACTs.

ECs aren't very good. My CC doesn't really have any ECs that interest me and I've also been working 20-30 hours per week. I played two sports and participated in an environmental science competition in HS.

HS stats are, well, interesting. I was a top student but encountered some personal/medical problems. I plan on using this, and how I grew from this experience, as the basis for my personal essay.

Here's a list of schools I came up with. If anybody has others that they would like to suggest, please do. The only request that I make is that they be located in the northeast or a few hours from the north east (farthest south I'd like to go is VA). What I'm looking for in a school is ties to Wall street via recruiting and alumni connections in addition to either a strong business or econ program.

Swarthmore

Villanova (business school)

Cornell (AEM most likely)

Brown

Dartmouth

Haverford

Georgetown (business school)

UVA (business school)

Would these be good choices as safeties?
- Rutgers (New Brunswick - business school)
- Temple (business school)
- Drexel (business school)

I know the schools like Brown and Dartmouth are huge reaches, but would I have a shot at something like Cornell AEM?

Thanks to everybody that replies.

Your situation sounds very similar to mine, as I had high grades and got sick in high school so my rank dropped due to not being able to take Advance Placement courses for the whole junior year and Honor courses were only available when I returned to school for second semester and let’s not talk about SATs.

UCLA was top choice, UVA 2nd, but with my SATs and new rank, they were impossible reaches. I got into my third and fourth choices, both solid recognized public schools (top 50) and chose Maryland and then transferred to UMiami to be closer to home for health reasons and now I’m good. I applied to UVA Mcintire and UNC-Chapel Hill for junior transfer and will be going to UNC in three weeks.

I’d recommend UVA-McIntire but the transfer rate is very low for out of state applicants (less than 10% chance). Other top schools that you should check out are:
*NYU-Stern School of Business
*University of Pennsylvania-Wharton School of Finance
*MIT-Sloan School of Business
*Carnegie Mellon-Tepper School of Business

For safeties, try Bentley, Boston U., Northeastern, Baruch College (CUNY) and Fordham as well as the other ones you listed.

I believe that you have a bigger shot than you think for Cornell AEM and Georgetown.

Yes, considering outside of Wall Street placement, our bschool is just as good, if not better than Nova’s bschool.

Is it worth retaking the SATs or ACTs (having a mediocre score) if one will be a junior transfer?

I was thinking about applying to Stern as well but I hear that they’re notoriously stingy with financial aid and they’re one of the most expensive schools as well. I guess there’s no harm in applying. I probably will also apply to Wharton but I realize that I have a better chance of being struck by lightening while applying than I do getting in. I think I will try Sloan and Tepper as well but I also realize they (Sloan especially) are pretty big reaches. Those suggestions for safeties look pretty good also, thanks!

I’ll keep that in consideration, thanks.

I think that in my case it is. I have a feeling that most of the schools I’m applying to will want to see strong test scores as well as a high GPA.

Hmm it appears both Dartmouth and Sloan require two SAT II tests. I guess I can cross those off the list :(

edit: Tepper as well

No problem. If you have any questions, PM me. I hope you have seen our brand new, state of the art business school. It’s really something else.

I haven’t seen it in person yet but I have seen pictures and it does look very impressive.

Does anybody else have any suggestions of where else I could possibly apply to? Or chances for the schools that I’m already considering?

Boston College, Lehigh, Cornell, Columbia, American (safety), Georgetown, and maybe Smith-UMD College Park as a safety
