chances, anybody?

well, just got my SAT results and i dropped 70 points.. ay ay ay. i'm a little discouraged and more than a little apprehensive, so i'd love it if anyone has a moment to look over my stats and let me know if i stand a chance. i posted several months ago but i feel like my circumstances have changed enough to warrant a second plea for validation.

anyway

i go to a very small rural public school. as of now i'm 1st in a class of about 120, with an unweighted GPA of about 4.2 on a 4.33 scale. i've always taken the hardest courses offered at my school.

sat scores:

cr: 800
math: 660 (!)
writing: 800

literature: 800
spanish: 800

AP exams:
english lit: 5
spanish lang: 5
bio: 5

current classes/grades:
AP Calc - A+
AP History - A+
Classical Physics - A+
Age of Legality - A
Performing Chorus - A
Independent Study in Spanish - P

i'm also taking Intro. to Comparative Politics at Middlebury College, but i don't know my current grade. i'm hoping to scrape by with nothing less than an A-, but who knows..

my ecs/awards are rather less than exceptional:
-New England Young Writers Conference 10-11 (host student 11), VT Young Playwrights' Festival 9-11 (featured playwright 10), editor of lit journal 11-12, editor of Spanish newsletter 12, volunteer with Refugee Resettlement Program's ESL classes 12, 8 years of cello, 12 years of classical piano, 15 years of freestyle skiing, softball 9-11 (captain 10, varsity 11), fall musical 9-12 (lead roll 12), student government 9-11.
University of VT Green & Gold Scholar
Nat. Merit Scholarship Semifinalist
blah blah blah

i'm applying EASC to Yale, RD to Tufts, Columbia, Mcgill, Brown, UPenn (maybe) and Harvard in approximately that order of preference.

my concerns: how much will that math 660 affect my chances? that's my biggest worry. also, i feel like what all these colleges are looking for is the kid who's a published novelist or an oscar-winning actor or the sole executive of some small third world polity, and i really have nothing wildly exceptional to recommend me.

i realize that no one can tell me definitively whether or not i will get into any of my schools, but i'd really appreciate an honest assessment of my potential chances. thanks so much for your help!

bump, please, anyone??

hey it's really similar with me. ok my reading score is lower than you, but it went up from last time (690 - 730), but my math score dropped 60 points from last time (670!) writing 80 points (720!). schools take your highest scores though, so i wouldn't be too worried about it.

yeah, unfortunately the math 660 is my highest math score. my most recent math score was even lower! i'm so worried that with all of those crazy perfect scorers out there, colleges will take one look at that 660 and reject me. i've never gotten less than an A+ in a math class at my school; could that help? or will colleges just assume my school's math program is crazy easy? do i have a chance even with that score??? please help.

well my highest in math is 730. i think an above 700 is required.

thanks for the input, blogged. anybody else?

one more try...

i'd be really grateful for some other opinions!

Your math is low for Yale, but your cr and wriitng could not be higher. These are clearly your strengths as further evidenced by your ecs-- the writer's conference and the featured playwright. Supposedly schools are looking for the well rounded class rather than the well rounded individual. You don't have to be good at everything, you just have to be VERY good at something and clearly you are. I really would not worry about the math, but I would worry about the sat II's, don't you need 3 for Yale? Do you have a third or will you be taking that in November?

You have a fairly good shot :)
