Thanks again, everyone! If I left anything out just let me know.

IMHO, based on the info you provided, that your chances for admission are good (obviously no guarantee). You may even want to consider applying to the Honors Program if you have an interest in doing so. UD does have an admission supplement that includes an essay (unless things have changed) and if you apply to the Honors Program you would have to complete a second essay. Just a word of caution. Make sure in both semesters of your Sr. year that you take 5 courses in major academic course areas. UD takes a dim view of students who decide to “coast thru” their Sr. year. Good luck. An admission’s interview “might” also increase your chances. Good luck.

Hmm… I thought the communications major was highly competitive and you were only selected after your Sophomore year?

those are excellent stats and you should have no problem getting into UD

Yeah, here is from the UofD website. . Though they increased it to 125 spots, it used to be 100.

All incoming students initially become Communication Interest majors. This includes first-year students, students already enrolled at U. D. who either had different majors or were undeclared, and students transferring from other universities; this latter group should also consult the section entitled “Transfer Students” below. The Communication Interest major consists of four three-credit courses (COMM245, COMM256, COMM330, and COMM301). At the end of the academic year in which a student completes the four three-credit courses, the Department will determine whether the student continues on to the Communication major. This determination is based solely on the grades received in those four courses by all of the Communication Interest majors who have completed these courses during that academic year. Students will be ranked by GPA in those four courses, and the top 125 of those students based on that ranking will be allowed to enter the Communication major. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE TOP 125 RULE.

@Mwallenmd Thanks for the advice! I’m thinking of taking an online AP class (either Psych of Poli Sci) and a math class at my community college so that would bump it up to five. I only took four my junior year (one of the four was a year-long AP calculus class though) but six my sophomore year, do you think that would be a problem?

Thanks everybody else for all your helpful information!

I think you should be fine. Just make sure that UD is aware of all the courses you will be taking during your Sr. year. A Psych course would probably be more beneficial to you than a Poly Sci course ( at UD a Psych course is part of the first year curriculum-if you score high enough on the AP exam you may not have to take it). Good luck.
